Newf children's books for the 5 year old set?

When I was tucking my little one into bed tonight she made a request for a book about a Newf for her 5th birthday next month. Any suggestions? I've seen a few for older kids but was looking for something that would be sweet and have nice illustrations for her. She's been watching my husband and I devour the Judi Adler books and she wants one all her own. Thanks!

I second Seaman's Journal- gorgeous book and I even had the chance to meet Patricia and talk newfs Newf by Marie Killilea is also beautiful.
The Newfoundland by Charlotte Wilcox is geared for kids.
Emma and the Night Dogs by Susan Bivin Aller is also worth a look.

Newf by Marie Killilea is a lovely book for 5 to 7 yrs old, about a Newf and a lost kitten. Beautifully illustrated.
Lighthouse Dog by Betty Watertown, comical. Kids would enjoy this too.

I wrote a children's book that tells children how to put a pet suitcase together for emergencies. After Hurricane Katrina hit and all those people were turned away from shelters or they stayed home because of their pets, then the president signed the no pets left behind act , it kind of coincides with that. Working with preschool children sometimes they worry less if you can give them a small bit of control over uncontrolable situations.

It's a story/ Coloring type book, I would be glad to send you one if you pm me your address.
The title is Chance, Davy, and the Hurricane. The star of course being my Newf 2ndchance at life who has recently passed.

Great young children's series that I find very cute is Pet Trouble. Oh No Newf is about a Landseer, there is also Bad to the Bone Boxer, Mud Puddle Poodle and a couple or so more. Oh No Newf is lighthearted and really cute, but the bottom line is that the general focus of these books is to help children solve both friendship and pet problems. These books are by Tui Sutherland.
