Natural solution for flea/tick/heartworm prevention?

We've been using Revolution for a few years and although it seems to work okay, every month when I'm putting these strong smelling pesticides on my boy I get worried. Does anyone know of any more natural products or solutions for flea/ tick/ heartworm protection?

We live in a suburban area with a landscaped yard, so we don't have a huge problem, but we have had neighbors with flea problems and Brutus has gotten a few ticks when hiking and what not.

Thanks!

Check out the Maladies/Diseases forum, I just started a thread like this there on this topic. I don't use Revolution or any of those products because I don't like putting the chemicals on and into Sully. My area isn't too bad for ticks with lyme or anything like that so all I do is spray with him a mix of Apple Cider Vinegar and water to repel the critters.

ACV all the way. I totally agree. I will not use pesticides on my animals if I can help it. The things that ACV can control and eliminate are incredible.

I use Frontline....but am interested in learning more about ACV. We live in a heavily treed area - so worry about both fleas and ticks. Kim

I use this and I get my dogs tested every second year now, because we have had no positives. It was every year initially, the blood test is quite expensive in Australia

I am sure you will have an equal in the USA

I hate putting chemicals near or on my dogs or us humans. I am convinced that we have so much cancer around now, because off all the preventatives we use. Especially all the cleaning products. I love Apple cider vinegar and all the "old" cleaning products like bicarb etc

I put a little ACV in their food, never thought about spraying it on them for flea/tick preventative. For the spraying, how much do you dilute with water & how often do you spray them & how much at a time? I had also read that garlic tablets like "Bug Off Garlic" thats manufactures by Springtime,INc. works. www.springtimeing.com

I use "Quantum" herbal products. 100% natural flea and tick spray.

Ingredients: Essential oils of Erigeron, Rose Geranium, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree.

As with most natural products, I find I have to apply much more frequently.

But, it's better than using chemicals.
