Has anyone heard of a food called Natural Blend by Royal Canin ?? Louie has been having loose stools. I have had him on Wellness and never had any problems until about a month ago. He turned 2 on Sunday Oct. 27th. Had all kinds of tests done and everything is ok so...I figure it is the food. My groomer told me about this food and has told me it more Holistic then the other brands. So I am thinking of trying it. Let me know if anyone is using it or if you know anything about it. Thanks

I have heard of Royal Canin, but not this particular variety. A year or so ago, a rep from Royal Canin was at our pet food store, giving out free samples. One of the things I found most interesting is that they have large size kibble for large size dogs... almost the size of charcoal briquettes. The ingredients seemed good. I took it home and used it for treats. The dogs liked it well enough, but we had just switched to Nutro and were getting good results... and didn't want to rock the boat. If I recall correctly, it's a little pricey, but so is Nutro. ;)

Royal Canin Giant Breed is REALLY high in protein as well as fat, beware. I would only consider feeding it to my newf if she were a professional life-guard/water-rescue dog or into SAR work, maybe. She actually LOVES the size of the kibble, but its ingredients make her BREAK OUT like crazy. It does have corn meal gluten in it, but I think she just has a problem with the chicken in it, not the corn. With every chicken meal based product she has the same reaction.
The Holistic brand is pretty good, but if you are going to spend that kind of money I'd try other variations of Wellness first, too much of any food can cause diarhea in a dog, especially any of the quality foods like Wellness, Wysong, Pinnacle, Canidae, California Natural, etc...The only reason I say try another variety or quantity of Wellness is that it is the only non-extruded food on the market right now. It is baked at a low temperature. That means that a lot of the nutrients aren't as processed as in the extrusion process (which entails cooking at EXTREMELY high tempatures). Wysong's extrusion process is supposed to be different than other companies' extrusion as well. I think it is done at a lower temperature and then the vitamins, etc...are sprayed on AFTER cooking. Also, I can't remember the poundage, but each wysong packet is 4-5lbs. They have 40 lb boxes with 10 bags and 20 lb boxes with 5 bags...and if you don't have a giant breed, which you do ;) , you could buy the individual 4 lb packet. The way they package it the food stays very fresh.
Anyway, the Holisitc brand is pretty good, but I'd definitely try a dif. Wellness brand, a Wysong one, Pinnacle, Canidae, California Natural etc...All of those foods as of this date are excellent. (I just wrote that part, because one never knows when a company may change a recipe when being bought out...etc.) Also, remember EVERY dog is different. It all comes down to what your dog can handle and also you! ;)
