My Myra

Well, it was a really bad weekend with Myra :(

She's currently 9 going on 10 in August. We built the ramp last year for Zeke (and he hasn't used it yet) but Myra uses it all the time. I think Friday night something happened. We assumed she fell or got stuck and her back or her legs finally gave. Vin said it's time to start thinking about it becoming time for her, my heart sank. He asked me to start preparing myself, I can't.....I won't not yet, it's not time. I will know when it's time, and it's just NOT.

As I pondered all this all weekend long, thinking if it's her back or her legs, would I want to know what the cause of all this is, would it be worth taking her for x-rays etc. If I think about her age, and I think the last time we had her to the emergency vet (2 yrs ago) I had to give a DNR because her heart rate was so high and erratic. But thinking about that made me think, back then it was a bladder infection that had us thinking bloat. She's now been on minimal dose of prednisone for almost 2 years because without it she can't walk (we think it keeps the inflammation in her spine down-due to the lower lumbar spondylosis) What if we are dealing with another UTI or bladder infection???? She never gives any indications or signs that anything is going on until she can't seem to walk. We got a urine sample and dropped it for our Mobile vet this morning.

We have both dogs annuals coming up this weekend, so I'm asking for prayers that this is some type of UTI/bladder infection cause I'm soooo not ready and neither is she. I've checked her legs and spine and she doesn't seem to flinch or give me any indication the problem is either one. She's had reoccurring UTI's we think because of the pred and her low stance when she potties.

Sorry so long but I'm not ready to give up on her. (when I mentioned to Vin about it possibly being a UTI, it did give him some hope) I'll keep you all posted on what we find out.

Google the uk supervet Noel Fitzpatrick as he's done spinal operations on older dogs who have bulging discs.

Can you get her a doggy chiropractor as massage with something to keep any swelling down may help or a wheelchair for when she's out and about.
It would take some of her weight and keep the muscles going.

Sending prayers and healing thoughts.... I have been through this with our Katy bear... we just did a lot of physio and massages and took her swimming to get the supporting muscles stronger... katy is also on low dose pred, only about 5 mg every second day now... But I also give her natural remedies... Devils Claw makes a huge difference as does Rosehip... she gets glucosamine, fish oil and magnesium too.... she has got back to actively doing water rescue, light carting and running about again... Keep at it as long as she is not in pain and happy

It is an infection!!!!!! Don't know any details yet other than gram negative, culture is on day 2 to find out the correct antibiotics (but I have her on what we had left over) Vet will be here on Sat. She still needs help getting up the ramp but she is more stable on her feet and her tail is not tucked :) I will keep you guys posted after the vet visit on Sat!!! Thank you and please keep thinking and praying for her! She's not leaving me any time soon!!!!! And yes, we have used the cranberry & D-Mannose capsules but it seems to just hold off the inevitable infections. The Devil's claw is something I will look into!
