My heart is devastated yet again...

Hi everyone,

Long time - not really.

I had posted after my Dudley passed away (June 12, 2017) that I was bringing home a Great Dane puppy named Duncan in September.

We did, he was an awesome dog! What a personality. We completed Puppy Preschool and Obedience One (with honors). We were to about to start Canine Good Citizen on his way to Therapy Certification when he passed away suddenly, in my arms, from a suspected Heart Arrhythmia on March 28th at 1:28pm - on the couch just as he settled down for his afternoon nap.

He was 8 months and 1 day old. I've never been able to master adding photos to my posts here but just imagine the most beautiful Harlequin Great Dane ever - that was him. Floppy ears (cause they're the best).

I knew I was in for a shorter life span (7-9) but I never expected 8 months. I was super diligent with Bloat but a heart attack at 8 months? NEVER expected that one. :(

So very lost over here... 2 beautiful souls within a year. My brain is saying NO NO NO NO NO NEVER AGAIN - yet my heart yearns...

Oh that's just heartbreaking!! I love harlequins and always wanted one. I'm devastated for you. But know this...that pup, whose life may have been far too short, had the best life for those few months. And that's what counts most. Not the length of life, but the richness of it. And you gave that to him. He was a lucky dog, though it may not seem that way. I hope that soon, you will remember the joy without the pain.

The reason they leave such a hole in our hearts is so that the next one knows where to come in. You will know when the time is right.

I am heartbroken for you. So very sorry. I lost a Newf at 13 months year before last to SAS and that also was devastating, but we know we have given them the very best in love in their short lives. Hugs.

Thank you everyone. It's so very weird how a puppy can take over a house in such a short period of time.

It felt like a whole lot longer than 6 months but then when I think about it, he never got a summer here. Never got a vacation at the lake. Never got a birthday cake!

My last birthday (April 18) I had my Dudley by my side - healthy as can be (as far as I knew). This birthday, I celebrated without my Dudley and without my Duncan. It totally sucked. :(

I still love seeing all the new Newfies and all the familiar faces, too! Maybe someday another Newfie will come into my life - I most certainly hope so. My hands don't though (too arthritic to brush those gorgeous coats every day).

So for now, I'll just watch yours.

Love to all...
