Folks just got off the phone with Newfmom, Moose has gotten a bit worse and still can't really eat or drink. She will be taking him down to an internist this morning to get an ultrasound. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. This is a really tough time. Right now we are down to two things. Either liver failure or Addisons. The vet has given us some things to make Moose more comfortable while we wait the results of some tests. One of the tests will either rule out addisons or suggest that is might be addisons. If Addisons is ruled out we will keep Moose on the meds and probably help him over the bridge in a few days. If it is possible addisons there is one more test that will definitely rule out or confirm addisons (That test is evidently not very comfortable so we will only do that if there is a chance that it is addisons). If it is addisons we will use meds to keep him comfortable for the next few months until we have to help him over the bridge. This is real hard. It has been way too short a time with him. But I would do it again in a heartbeat.

How wonderful that Moose found you guys. This is very sad news, but I can't imagine a better way to spend one's last days than with such caring loving people.
I know your time together, no matter how long or short, is a great gift to Moose.

Art and Sharon - I'm so terribly sorry. I'm sobbing at work. I really hope you get good news. Your family has been just wonderful for Moose. I'm sure he feels like he finally came home. You guys are great.mj

Hi -

I just wanted to say that I have a dog that has Atypical Addison's disease... It is a chronic and tough, but VERY manageable disease once they get the meds right... and there is only ONE test for it - the ACTH test - and it is pass/fail - cut/dry... If Moose has had this test already - it will give a definitive answer and NO other test is needed - and it should not be uncomfortable for the dog at all... :( Not sure what they are referring to for that... It is just a blood draw, injection and another blood draw spaced a few hours apart.

My girl Sadie has been living with Addison's for over four years - she's now over 10 years old and I would be happy to help in any way possible. It is sadly one of those very often misdiagnosed and even more often mistreated diseases ...

Hopefully if they are even "considering" it to be a possibility still that they are beginning steroid treatment in some way - dexamethasone is one that will not interfere with the results of the ACTH test - nor cause tummy upsets... and will give Moose immediate relief.... Addison's Disease is the death of the adrenal glands and they do suffer without the hormones the adrenal gland produces in the body - they must be replaced in some way.

I'm sorry if this is too much info ...

Hugs .... Karen

Oh my gosh, I was really hoping for better news, as I'm sure you were also. You have done and continue to do the best things that Moose needs.

Hang in there, you've went the extra mile to give Moose a loving family to call his own, and now he will not go through this alone.
