Hi folks
Just got off the phone with newfmom. Moose totally tore out his ACL on the back leg this morning. Keep him in your thoughts.

Poor Moose...but where does the chipmunk fit in this story? Was he chasing it? Sending good thoughts and prayers for a speedy healing.

We will be going to an orthopedic vet to see what we do next. Moose was outside and the chimpmunk went ripping by him under the hose reel. Moose then jumps up and goes after him. This was when the knee went. As for the chipmunk it then paniced went the other way from the hose reel and hit head first in to an old aquarium on the back patio and bounced off. So not wholly unscathed. thank you all for the kind thoughts and more as we find out.

Good luck. Make sure they give him an epidural during surgery - he'll be in less pain afterwards.

You know - since it seems like every newf is guaranteed to bust at least one knee in his/her life - why aren't we bargaining for group rates????

Got some news on moose the other day. Moose has evidently injured his other knee in the past. The doctor seems to think that our best course given his age is to wait and see if this new injury will heal like the other injury. After a couple of days it seems like he is doing very well and that we will not have to do surgery on the newly injured leg. So everyone keep your fingers crossed for moose. Thank you all for all your kind thoughts. Take care everyone.

Thanks for all the good thoughts everyone. Sorry I've been AWOL. NewfDad forgot to mention this happened on the morning my parents were coming in from out of town with very little notice.

Moose started yesterday to bear weight on his leg. He's still limping badly but is using the leg now.

For now he's on a higher dose of prednisone and a pain killer tramadol.

If we can get his new injury to heal up so he's fairly comfortable we won't do surgery. He'll only be good for walking short distances but for him it may be the best answer. In addition to his age being a factor, the major consideration is his Addison's disease. Major stresses like surgery are not a good combination with Addison's.

He has to take some prednisone to keep the Addison's under control. However, prednisone makes them more likely to blow out their ACL.

Moose and Kimber did start swimming at an indoor facility this week. They were going to go last week but Moose blew his ACL and I was running around getting x-rays etc. For at least a couple of weeks, Moose will be splashing around in the water rather than swimming laps. However, I had to tie him up to keep him from trying to swim the laps with Kimber.

Moose has also started to do his roll around and scratch at the floor antics again so I think he's feeling better.
