"moistening dog kibble"

Hi all!

Here's a dumb question: When you moisten the kibble to make it more digestible and palatable for our newfie and other canine friends, just how much moistening are we talking about? To be honest with all of you, I never moistened my kibble for Mocha--her breeder and our vets never said anything about that, so we never did it. But with the new puppy coming tonight, I want to do everything right by her. I very much appreciate all of the expert advice and opinions that I've seen on this board....
Thanks again for all your help! I'm still learning the most rudimentary functions of my new digital camera, but as soon as I figure out how to do it, I will post pics of my(oops! Our) new newfie!! 'So excited!!!

Hi Geoff - When Herb was a puppy, my breeder did tell us to moisten his kibble. Did not specify how much; I don't think the quantity of moisture is really that important, it's just the fact that kibble expands when moisture hits it and you want it to do that in their dish before it does it in their tiny tummies.

Consult your baby's breeder and ask them what your pup's used to eating. That's usually the best course to take. We all do things differently.

My baby Nani's breeder soaked her food thoroughly, until it was soft and mushy and I continued that practice until she was 10 weeks old. Then I only moistened two out of her three meals each day. By "moistened", I mean that I would soak the kibble until it was semi-soft but still a little crunchy.

I also supplement her food with fresh organ meats (kidneys, hearts, liver, etc), veggies and some fruits. Vitamin C is a big must for my animals, as well.

Talking to your breeder will give you a better idea, though. PICTURES! PICTURES!
