Milo Saved Daddy

Well, not really, but in the exercise, he did... almost.

Yesterday is the first day we have taken him to a real beach where the water actually comes up on shore. Usually we're at the canal which has a pretty steep dropoff.

There were a bunch of really friendly dogs there and Milo had his first test off-leash with all those distractions.

I have to say, he did FAIRLY well. We met all the owners and dogs beforehand and they were all friendly and playful. He definitely needs more work with recall but he does saunter back when called. lol

Anyway, so after a nice little play time, we moved down the beach where no one was. We had him in the water with my boyfriend calling him back and forth. My boyfriend swam out quite a ways and sat low in the water to where you can only see his head. He called Milo and I told him, "go save daddy".

He ran to the water, jumped in, swam to my boyfriend, swam in front of him and allowed my boyfriend to grab him and towed him back to shore!

He had a bit of a time doing so and my boyfriend was trying not to "drown" him lol, I think he needs more practice.

He's not super buoyant lol. But he did so without hesitation! Hooray for my big boy!

I'm assuming they learn to stay up better in the water with someone in tow as they get more practice?

Here are some pics from last night and him after his bath.

Awww I love how he went out to save him. He's such a pretty boy. My favorite pic tho is the one with his head over the seat and you can tell he is just. so. tired. but still wants to see what's going on.

perhaps a lifejacket on Milo will help him at least until he gets better in the water, gives them and you more confidence too

Great job Milo :groovy:
Moby gives a 'thumbs up' (paws up?) for the life jacket, gives just an added bit of buoyancy for confidence.

Enjoy swimming

Cute pics!! Check out Petco/Petsmart's in your area for life jackets. I got ours on clearance there around this time last year.

I second the life jacket. When I first had Sam start towing me, I got him one so he would not sink and become frightened. We don't use it often, but I like having it available if he is out of condition, or tired. My mom thinks it is ridiculous that my dog has a life jacket! : ). Other people ask if he is a rescue dog. : )
