Marley and Me....

Anyone read this book? A friend recommended it to me after hearing of Joey's anxiety troubles. I started reading it last night. Marley is very much like Joey so I'm finding it quite a good read. Nice to know others have survived with a dog like this :D As they say "Misery loves company"

Pam...the book could have been written about my daughter's Lab, Boodah. He even looks like Marley. Boodah just turned 14 and though his legs are giving out, he still managed to eat an entire pack of baby wipes the other day when Danielle went out! The book was funny and touching! We found out the her Lab is really an "American Field Lab" whatever that means, bought while she was in college and purchased in Landcaster PA...a puppy mill dog.
Edited to say...I have a wonderful SIL that pulled out the wipes "one by one" if you get my drift!

Love that book!!! Be sure you have some tissues nearby...if I wasn't laughing myself to tears I was tearing up for other reasons. I'm sure you will really enjoy it, Pam!

He was actually on Dog Whisperer this past week too with their new Lab who likes to kill chickens. Funny enough, they got one they knew from hunting stock and they don't hunt. Dog had no outlet. Was actually a pretty good episode.

Finished the book last night...Loved it!!!! Definately needed the tissues :(

This book would make a great gift for anyone that loves dogs or happens to have a disfunctional dog ;) ;)

I thought it was hilarious, and sweet!

But I'm not thrilled with some of the ways the human family treated Marley. Most notably, cramming him into a too-small crate for flying, and being proud when they outsmarted the people who worked for the airline, who were looking out for Marley's comfort and safety.

I'm also baffled as to their going on vacation when Marley was near death. Baffled! It's obvious that they loved Marley and considered him family, and yet they were okay with leaving him in others' care while they went on vacation! When my animals are ill, there is no way I could go on vacation. No way. Especially if they are old and I know death is imminent.

I loved it also, I read it last Fall. I remember also crying at the end. Hey, if anyone would like to read it, I also got another copy for Christmas, I'd be happy to send my extra copy to someone. Let me know!

I read it last winter. I finished it one day at work during lunch. Thank goodness the judge and court reporter were both on vacation that day. I was bawling like a baby. I had to keep going into the courtroom to steal the tissues that are kept on hand for tearful witnesses.

I agree with Arvay in that respect. I loved the book, but also found it troubling how long Marley lingered before that final decision. I know it's a personal decision. I just found it very hard to think of letting my beloved dog struggle so. Sometimes I think people fool themselves that the dog is still having a "good life." I wonder if they would think it was a good life if it was a human who was losing all control. Sorry. I know how terrible it is to say goodbye. :(
