My breeder suggests only feeding Baloo large breed puppy food until he is 6 months old (that is only 2 months away...time fly's!) and the vet says a year. We deciced (the vet and I) to have him weighed in two months and decide from there.

Baloo currently weighs 42.7 #'s as of yesterday (at 16 weeks old). When did all you seasoned parents do with your little big ones?

Also, breeder suggested giving in a glucosamine (sp?) supplement, when and how?

I'd suggest you follow the breeder's recommendations. He or she should know what pups of their line need to develop properly. If your vet isn't familiar with giant breeds, he may not. Ask the breeder for specifics on the glucosamine. I only use that for my oldies.

Thanks Lynne, even my vet admitted that my breeder would know more about the breed than she would
I just wanted to check with other Newfie owners

Why does the breeder use glucosamine for young dogs? I've always used it for older, arthritic ones. Seems to me I heard somewhere that it might actually be harmful for a growing pup. Double check on that, and the reason for giving it.

I definately will Lynne, I couldn't remember when she said to start it, a phone call could answer that!! If I remember correctly she said to use it as a "preventative" supplement.

I thought I saw where you can buy dog cookies with it already included when we went to the pet store last...I could be mistaken though.
