Lip Infection

Has anyone dealt with reoccurring infections in the jowls? Elvis was diagnosed with an infection in between his bottom right lip folds in April. We found it when his breath got really, really bad and it cleared up after a round of antibiotics.

It came back last week as a large, lobular, red area in the same spot. We tried the same antibiotic but it wasn't any better by today so he went back to the vet. They extended the antibiotic and added special wipes and a powder and he goes back in two weeks.

He's 10.5 and this is the first time we've ever dealt with anything like this. He's eating and drinking just fine. He's not that active, but let's be honest - when have I ever called Elvis "active"?

Don’t have any experience with that. Dublin gets yeast in his neck folds from the humidity here. Medicated shampoo and Malecetic wipes help with that. He’s never had it in his jowls though. I hope Elvis is better soon!

Yes, Evan had that when he was older and it was a constant battle to keep it clean and wiped. I used diluted hydrogen peroxide, any ointment I tried got licked off. Was never able to completely get rid of it.

Zeke has had a few bubbles that pop up here & there but they haven't grown into anything. I've just been keeping an eye watching it. I think I have a picture cause at first wasn't sure if it was left or right side but it think it had gone from side to side. Assuming it was some type of irritation from food or maybe a tooth abscess that didn't go full blown.

He's doing much better! Thanks so much for asking. I don't know if it's the antibiotics, wipes, or powder, but his reddened area has gone way down, the smell has faded away, and he felt frisky enough to steal our 3 year old's dinner the other night!
