I have cut and pasted this to several message boards so excuse the repeat of what you have heard before. I am too lazy to retype everything.
Everyone knows of Panda my 7 year old rescue Newf. I got her June 2001. Since the weather has changed she has been limping more. I was told that she was hit by a car when she was about a year old, so I figured it was just arthritis flaring up due to the weather change. I had a chance to talk to the previous owner and Yes Panda was hit by a truck but there were no broken bones. The reason for her limping a tragic story.
The owner had let Panda out with another dog while she went to work. While playing Panda's left front let got twisted in the other dog's choker chain. The other dog died and from what they could figure Panda's leg had the circulation cut off for about 6 hours. The leg was able to be saved with the use of steroids. The owner says that since then she has a slight limp when the weather changes.
My worry is: this in no slight limp. My vet believes she has some nerve damage and possible inflammation. So Panda was given a round of Prednisone which seemed to help. The limp became a gimp. Since she is off the prednisone the limp has returned. I refuse to put her back on steroids because she had a very bad time with them. Along with the normal increase in water and peeing she panted and drooled profusely and would pace all the time.
Has anyone ever had any experience with nerve damage? Out of desperation I tried her on Rimadyl and it didn't work.
Thanks for any suggestions
