Large Breed Adult Food vs. Regular Adult Food

I've read the posts saying that you should feed your puppy adult food. But does anyone know which would be better: the large breed adult kibble or just the regular adult kibble? These are the topics I occupy myself with while waiting for my Newf...still 5 months away. tick-tock tick-tock...

Kodi was on Eukanuba large breed puppy till 5 months, then switched over to Eukanuba large breed adult because the puppy formula had too much protein content and he developed pano. Since the switch, his pano has improved. This feeding program is what his breeder and vet advised. Bet you're counting down the days now...how exciting!

I prefer to have even less than 20% protein if you can find it, i wont touch the large breed formulas, i have stayed with the tried and true, never changing formula of wysong synorgen brand food.
they grow slow on this food and skin coat eyes everything are so healthy.
the food crumbles apart when wet, with barely any swell, i cant stand large kibbles that swell to twice the original size and even more on some brands, many brands of food are constantly changing ingredients, that is not healthy.

What stores carry the Wysong Synorgen? If you say it's got less protein, I like that. Do you offer it dry or moist? Do you feed the same amount as the Eukanuba or less?

http://www.wysong.net

if you go to the link above you can find the areas that sell this brand near you.
the only thing is the synorgen formula is 24% protein, i tried to find the formula that is less but it is hard to, especially in kibble that crumbles apart, instead of swelling up like a big sponge.
it still is proven to be favorable for slower growth, especially in the males.
the canned formulas are meat that is it, and great stuff.

Thanks for the input! I know that at 'Petco' you can find the Wysong brand. I don't know about 'Petsmart' but they probably do carry it.

"Slow grow is the way to go" ....I have seen so many newfs encounter unnecessary difficulty when with owners who are so "anxious" for there gentle giant to be ...well giant...so hard on the joints.

I have had several newfs over the years and our most recent is Wesly ..a beautiful 7 month puppy. We feed Innova adult maintenance and include every day fresh fruit, veggies, and a raw chicken neck cut into small bite size pieces (bones and all ...great source of calcium). We also suppliment with canine metabolizer (Malpleton).

I should also mention we have a long haired dachshound(Howard)who had terrible skin allergies ...nothing seemed to work to relieve the itching...it was heart breaking. Then our vet picked up a new partner who specializes in pet nutrition and suggested we switch from corn based foods....many dogs are allergic to corn... Anyway, she suggested we switch to California Natural (rice and lamb are the only ingredients) ..and Howard now looks great ...his coat is beautiful, no skin allergies ...no scratching.. no licking (and thankfully...no more weird shampoos, dips, lotions, potions, whoodoo or voodoo...a happy little puppy!!!!!

I web site that discusses most major brand kibble ingredients is http://www.iei.net/~ebreeden/kibble.html

Exciting waiting for that puppy isn't it ...silly as it may sound I lost sleep at times waiting for our most recent addition

Thanks Dennis! I like how the site lists all the different foods and asterisks the objectionable. It really helps in deciding which kibble is best. I am so excited to be owned by a Newf! It's great to be able to come here in the time being and learn about things and also have a good laugh or two!
