Lactation after spay?

I was checking Ella's spay incision today and noticed that she was lactating. It is very bizarre because there is a lot of milk coming out and she is acting really strange. She is being really protective of her stuffed animals and she keeps digging in her blanket. However, The incision looks really good, no puss and looks clean. Is this normal? I called the vet, who was in surgery and is suppose to call me back in a couple hours. Is it even possible for a female to lactate after being altered. Her temp is normal and she is very playful and I know this sounds weird, but she is acting like she's about to give birth. Any thoughts?

Her last heat started 12/20/2016 and it ended around 1\11/2017. I had her spayed this past Monday and thought the timing would be good since it was almost 3 months since her last cycle started.

The vet told me that it could be a false pregnancy due to a hormonal shift. Good news is that the vet said that typically hormone treatment is not needed and it should run its coarse. I'm sure things will be just fine, but they said it can last 2-4 weeks and it can temporarily affect her behavior.

The problem I'm having with it now is trying to keep her clean on her belly and incision area. The milk is getting matted in the fur on her inner hind legs and on the part of her belly that wasn't shaved. I was thinking about calling the breeder and seeing if she ever heard of this. Just when I thought I knew so much about dogs, I have to say that I never heard of this before.

All bitches, bred or not, think they're pregnant about 63 days post fertility. It's a function of the progesterone level. Some repro vets prefer to call it a false whelp vs. false pregnancy. The timing is right on and she'd likely be doing this without having been spayed.
