Knee injury

Hello all,

Sunny my 2 1/2 year old newf did something to his left knee last Friday, there was quite a bit of swelling on the inside of the knee. The swelling has gone down a lot, and he will be getting x-rays tomorrow. Just wanted an idea of what to expect, if anyone else has had this problem. He can weight bear on the leg, but bunny hops when he runs, so it must be bothering him somewhat.
Thanks, Glenda

Glenda, I'm far from an expert on knee injuries. But I do remember this. When Khiori tore her cruciate I didn't know what it was. All I knew was she was limping and there was no apparent reason why. I checked her knee for any swelling or heat - none. Maybe Sunny has injured a muscle. That would account for the swelling and the pain. Your vet will know more about all that. But if it is a muscle problem, the vet will most likely prescibe rest for a few days.

Hope it's nothing more than that

I don't know much about knee injuries but I will pray that all goes well with Sunny. Let us know how the xrays turn out. Goodluck to you both

Hopefully, it's just a bruise, Glenda. The fact that it's getting better is hopeful. Please let us know what the vet says.

Thanks for all your support. We got put off till tomorrow at the vets. Sunny seems ok. Still trying to run around, but nightly massages are helping.<g> I am reminded if I forget. Loudly! Plan on getting a few x-rays done just in case. Will let you know.

Results of visit at vets. Small tear in base of medial lateral ligament. Treated with immobilization normally<g> Told me, in Sunny's case just lots of rest. If he persists in using it, may try an Allan-Jones bandage. Will take a long time to heal. Sunny was great, so good with this new vet of ours. Vet was great with him. Think we will keep him.<g>

You're keeping Sunny, the vet, or both??
Seriously, it sounds like he's a nice, conservative vet- just the kind I like!

I'm glad the visit went okay. I agree, I think it is soooo important for both owner and newfie to like their vet. How old is Sunny?
