Important non newf

I am posting this in hopes that at least one person can benifit from this. Last summer I noticed a black spot on my right shoulder about the size of a pencil eraser. I didn't think anything about it. Finally this winter I went to the doctor and he removed it. Even though it was so small he cut out an area 1 inch long, 1/2 innch wide and 1/4 inch deep. thank God he took extra. A biopsy confirmed that is was a melanoma (skin cancer) Thankfully it was removed before it got big enough to spead, but the doctor told me it was on the edge of being big enough to cause trouble. Another 6-8 weeks and it would have spead into my blood stream and (in the doctor's words) "gone anyplace in your body". I urge anyone that has a strange spot on your skin to get it checked. I know that if it were on my Newf I would have had it looked at immediately. Don't put it off. I was less than 2 months of possibly having cancer. But because I had it checked I now have no problem

Wow, Jeanne! I'm glad you got it removed. I'll be praying for you that it doesn't recur. I keep an eye on a few moles I have, and the countless freckles my Irish husband has

And you're right. Had something like that been on any of our dogs, we'd have them checked out immediately. And here I am needing to go to the doctor and have been putting it off for years now ... ouch.

I'm glad you got it in time Jeanne. I have some spots that I keep an eye on. The dermatologist says to look for irregularity in shape and different colors. I'm so relieved that you got it removed in time.
