Immune Supplements

As most of you know, Bubba has had a problem with mites. The doc said his immune sys. couldn't fight them off, so we stepped in and he's doing great. My question/worry is when he's done the meds it may start all over again.
What can you give your dog to boost his immune system?

Two things that I give my Newfs to aid in insuring a healthy immune system is Ester-C and Zinc. I give these two natural supplements to all my puppies and adults on a daily basis with their meals in the following quantity:

Ester-C - 500 mg 2x's a day for puppies up to 1 yr. and 500 mg 1x a day for all dogs over a year.
Vitamin C plays an important role in supporting immune funsction. As an antioxidant, Vitamin C helps neutralize harmful free radicals in cells. Ester-C is the only Vitamin C that contains metabolites the enhance the delivery of essential Vitamin C to the body.

Zinc - 50 mg 1x every other day for all dogs
Zinc is essential for energy metabolism, proper growth and normal reproductive development as well as normal tissue rnewal and skeletal development. Zinc also aids in maintaining a healthy immune system.

I also take the same dose myself! So far I have been resistant to the colds and flu everyone else has had!

Wow! OK, my next question is how do you give them all this? If it were in pill form, it seems like a lot of pills

Some sups are in pill form, some powder. I give all my kids these sups by tossing them on their food. I usually have a small addition of something they love in their bowls and they just eat the pills along with the rest of their food. Haven't had a problem yet.

We give Brady the mega C but our breeder suggested the "NuVet Plus" which contains different vitamins and minerals. Brady has had so many skin problems she also thought his immune system needed a boost.

Well, I never would have believed it, but I saw it with my own eyes. Bubba absolutely hates taking pills, so I figured no way just throwing them on his food would work. I stand corrected
I put Tuesday nite's supplements in his food dish and gone. Same with yesterday. And to think all this time I've been trying to force feed them to him

OK so I already give Ester C 1000 mg per day and Vit E 400 IU per day. I will just add some Zinc. So now will all basis be covered and my newfs getting the best care possible?? :D :D

I put the pills in there food. At least for Sam and Panda. Sara won't eat if there are pills in her food. Come to think of it she sometimes will not even even with food in her food
Anyway I just stick Sara's down her throat. I always check bowls after eating. Sam is a good one of sorting the pills out. I just stick in down her throat too. No problem and very simple.

*****By the way to all newf netters.**** I know Susan Wagner She is a wonderful person with lots of knowledge on newfs. Her newfs are beautiful. Any advice she gives--I will do or at least try to see if it works for me. Even if she told me to hold my girls up side down by their toes I would probably try it  :D
