I need a newf resource book

Less than three weeks ago my wife met me at the door to tell me she found a dog. Not a specific dog, but a breed of dog she felt best fit our lifestyle. As you have guessed, it was a Newf
Not knowing much about the breed, and having never seen one in person, we hit the Internet hard (even finding this place)looking for information. We fell in love (on paper) but still hadn't met one of these beautiful animals. Through our vet we contacted a newf owner in the area, and to make a long story short, last Wednesday our family was NEWFed
for the first time. Bennett (my wife) our two boys, Parker (4 1/2) and Rafe (3mo)and myself now talk about WHEN we get our newf rather than IF we get one.

For now I will have to settle for a good book on the breed if someone will direct me to one they have found helpful. Also,I have e-mailed one breeder whom I will be meeting in the near future but would like to meet others if anyone knows of any in WA, ID, OR, or MT send them to my e-mail. Lastly, how do I survive these months while waiting for a newf.

I will be checking back often for additional advice, laughs, and new friends. Thanks GAD for the site.

Hi and Welcome! You might want to check out the NCA site at www.newfdogclub.org for breeder's list and great info! As for a good Newf book, I have found this site to be a great source of Newf info...better really than any book! Good luck!

Hi, Jason and welcome! I was in the exact same position as you before I finally brought home Baby Nani (9 weeks old now).

One day while surfing the net, I came across a photo gallery that had nothing but Newfies in it - all ages, colors, sizes. I never looked back. I contacted quite a few breeders before selecting one that I was quite satisfied with, then proceeded to read everything I layed my eyeballs on about these wonderful, WONDERFUL animals.

I won't sugarcoat it, hon. You want to know how agonizing the year and a half wait was for me? I burst into tears while laying on an unspeakably filthy floor when I first layed eyes on my baby at the airport cargo warehouse. It was quite a sight. Just picture an office full of burly men grinning like children and cooing over this beautiful baby Newfy with me bawling my head off and laughing at the same time. You're in for the ride of your life!

Please keep us posted and baby pictures are ALWAYS welcome!

P.S.) Newf Friends is one of the sites I returned to again and again in the long months before bringing Nani home. Enjoy!
