Dr. Stanley Marks, a professor at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, has produced a documentary entitled "Hunger Pains." This 12-minute film highlights four canine patients who were diagnosed with swallowing disorders and treated at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.

Beyond the treatments, the documentary depicts the mutual commitment humans and animals have toward one another, spotlighting a bond that runs deeper than most know how to describe.

"The documentary allows one to get an appreciation of the incredible human-animal bond, as well as the benefits of collaborating with our colleagues in the (human) medical profession,” states Dr. Marks. “The film is a great example of the importance of our One Health initiative.”

The One Health approach addresses complex health problems on a platform that recognizes that the health of domestic animals, wildlife and people are inextricably linked with each other and the environment.
