This is a question for all of the breeders out there. How many times can you breed a newfy in 1 year with out jepordizing the health of the bitch and the quality of the puppies?

I'm not a breeder, so hopefully those who are will come in and correct anything I say wrong :D . Girls come into heat twice a year, about every six months. They can be safely bred on one of those heats. If you intend to use your girl for breeding purposes, you can breed once a year, after the age of two. You should also skip a year during the breeding life of your newf to give her a good rest.

If your girl doesn't take, you can breed her again on the next cycle in the same year. If she has a small litter, like ONE, as in my case, with your vet's approval, you can probably breed her again that same year. My girl Devil will be bred again, for the Last time at her next heat. She gave me one puppy, stingy girl that she is
. This is being done after discussing it with the reproduction vet we use and her complete approval.

Some girls cycle every 3 months, or 4 months, those girls are at high risk of pyo moreso than the girls cycle every 5 or 6 months, some breeders under VETERINARY advice and to many doubt a professional veterinarian, will breed back to back the girls that cycle every 3 months, i have heard 3 breedings than spay them.
it is something that is individual and dependant on many things, a vet would be the best person to ask, after all they go to school alot longer than an MD does!

Never say Never! (sounds like a james bond movie title  )
i know of some that do HAVE to be bred back to back and the pups were perfectly fine and the female was not at risk this under the professional advice of the vet or specialist.
there are times when it is necessary.

One instance is pyometra, say the female had it, was treated and saved from a spay, they bred her each cycle three times and than immediate spay, another instance
performance dogs, example
schutzund trainers, will do back to back, spay than they have their whole life to do the titles they need, seeing as how breeding and cycles affect them timewise.
i have never done it, and hope i will never have to, but there are other examples i am sure due to other things such as hormones and balance of progesterone etc.....

I'm glad I'm not a dog. Just having a baby 5 months ago I can feel for the dogs that are breed back to back. I wouldn't want to be pg again for anything.

Amen to that.
My aunt had 14 kids...all in litters of 2

All identical twins. First six SETS were boys, the last set was girls.

Twins run in my family, so I'm running!!!!

Laura...
all I have to say is 'OH MY GOD!!!!!!" If i were you i would remove my own uterous with salad tongs if necessary as a preventative messure... well not really, but I would consider it.
Brian and i have no kids we just have the dogs the cats and 1 horse. for now, the 4 pawed/hoofed are just fine.
I asked the question about the breeding, not because i want to breed Boagie (good lord she is only 7 months and still a baby herself) but because I have had someone tell me of a dog who is being bred 3 heats in a row. It seamed a little much to me and i am concerned about the bitch.
I have never bred dogs and I was 7 the last time my family had a bitch as apposed to a 'dog'
Is there reason to be concerned for this poor girl?

Dogger,
the only thing you can do is call them and ask them questions, ask them why she is being bred back to back, there may be medical reasons may not, maybe these people dont know any better.
