how about canned salmon?

I have been giving Brady salmon in small amounts every other day or so. I hope there is no problem with the salmon. I thought that was on the "good" list.
We also give him sardines in oil (yuck!!)

I copied and pasted the following from "mistymtnewfs" 5/9/02 posting

Ps. Safe fish to consume (this is for people AND dogs/cats) are: Summer Flounder, Wild Pacific Salmon, Croaker and Sardines. These fish were found to contain the lowest levels of mercury.

My husband is an advid Fly fisherman.. everything I have heared about feedining fresh salmon is bad. there is a parasite which is deadly to dogs. I have not heard the same of canned salmon and infact, feed WELNESS which contains fish, including salmon.

Caroline,
We heard about it from our breeder. We were very concerned about protien content of other dog foods, so we stayed with the wellness. We switched our dobbie to it as well. Sky, our first newfy was growing very quickly but was a good weight. Max, the dobie, did very well on it, he lost some weight, and his coat improved. Unfortunetly he did not loose enough wieght and is now on Jenny Craig for dogs.
I like the fact there are no chemicals or additives. If I had kids they would eat only organic food. It is just healthier.

We use Wellness for Brady. He seems to do very well with it. He won't eat the fish one though.

The parasite found in salmon that is deadly to dogs---still deadly even if the salmon is cooked? I cooked a salmon filet the other night and gave Yogi a couple of pieces. Now I'm worried :(
