I'm based in Oxford, England, and am waiting for my rescue girl Gemma. Gemma is 4 yo and had to be given up by her elderly owners due to their poor health. I'll post a PIC as soon as she comes home.

I'm new to Newfs and have already learned tons on this forum. Thanks to all of you for sharing your canine wisdom. :)

Hi and welcome,
Are you getting a 4 year old rescue AND a Newf puppy as it says on your profile?

Nope, just a 4 yo rescue girl. I'm not THAT insane!

I think the "puppy" thing has been assigned to me by the system, as a reflection of my being new to the forum. Unless I'm missing something.

Welcome to you and Gemma from Canada! I look forward to seeing the first photos of Gemma and to reading all about your adventures together. I have a six month old male newf named Obi. He's my first newf and he is smart.

So, we were expecting Gemma home this weekend. A phone call from the Newfoundland Club informed us that Gemma's old owners changed their mind and decided they want to keep Gemma still. This is, apparently, second time they have given her up, she went to foster home, aand they took her back just after a newowner has been identified. Second time in about a year!!! How can they do this to the poor girl?!

Needless to say, we are saddened; the kids are devastated. Ever since the home-vetters visit last Thursday the kids had not stopped asking when can we go meet Gemma. We have been talking about her sleeping place, buying her food (Orijen) and making a list of all the doggie must-haves (is, grooming equipment, collar, leash, etc). And now - this.

Oh, I am sorry, that is a disappointment for everyone. Hopefully another Newf will come into rescue or you will be able to find a good breeder for a puppy.

Most rescues I have dealt with have the owners sign a surrender form releasing all ownership of the dog to the rescue.

This should not happen. I'd question the rescue's way of doing things. This is not fair to the rescue, forever families and especially the dogs involved. Twice in a year? Poor dog. She must be so confused.
