Hi new friends! My name is Lindsay. I have a 4 month old Golden Retriever named Eli, he is my pride and joy. I have ALWAYS adored Newfoundlands, ever since I was a little girl growing up in New Jersey. I know there are many Newfies up north since the weather is more suitable for them, however, here in North Florida does have cold weather and actual seasons (like now, its cold!) and I know there are some Newfies out here! I work part-time at the vet on the weekends, and banking during the week. I Hope to expand my little fur-family and add a Newfie (hopefully by rescuing!) in the next year or two, as my little Eli needs a friend. I am excited to learn as much as I can about newfies, as they are such majestic, gentle giants. :) Thanks for the add to the forum! :allg069:

Welcome to Newfnet!!!

I suggest stocking up on kiddie pools (if you don't have dog friendly swimming close) and clooling mats if you want a newf down there

Yes, VERY wild childs as puppies...I have had two puppies now and they have both been handfuls...a rescue is a wonderful idea as so many are in need of a good loving home...I would definitely do a rescue again. Good luck and your boy is just beautiful...I too love Goldens!

Welcome from Montana!!!!

We have a newf and a golden. Love, love, love them. Both have such different personalities and they compliment each other so nicely in a family.
Wish you the best finding a rescue newf!

Thanks new friends! I am on the search for adopting a sweet gentle giant. Although Eli my golden was from a breeder, I would like to rescue a newfie. Hopefully I will find one who needs a loving home soon :)

There are Newfs in Florida. When we moved from Cleveland to Jacksonville, our first Newf, Caesar was 9. I worried about moving him to such a warm climate. He loved it because we had air conditioning, which we didn't in Cleveland. He lived to be 14.
Now we live about an hour north of Miami. Our Dublin will turn 5 this week. You do have to be careful not to overheat them in the summer, but you would with a Golden also. In summer, we walk Dublin in the evening when it's cooler. Also, a Florida Newf will not get as heavy a coat as one in a cold climate would. People are always asking why we don't shave him down in the summer. The coat helps protect them from the sun. You just have to use common sense, and provide lots of water. He would need to be an indoor dog. If you're in Jacksonville, lots of beaches are dog friendly. Be careful of ponds as poisonous snakes and gators are an issue.
Welcome, and good luck finding the right Newf!

Welcome! We have the pleasure of living with both a golden and Newfie too and they really do make a fun team. Enjoy your puppy and best of luck with your search!
