Hemopet Saliva Test Results

We got the results for our 2 year old Newf's saliva test from Hemo pet. It's three pages long of stuff he reacted to or didn't. It's very comprehensive. They test for two time periods - stuff he may have been exposed two up to two years ago and stuff from 6 months. Then they take the two numbers and advise what to avoid. It's a little confusing for some of the items that seem like they should be on the avoid list but aren't.

I won't list them all but one that is a pain is peanuts! We use peanut butter to give him his pills. Would switching to almond butter be different enough than peanuts?

A good friend advises liverwurst. Says no dog will refuse it. I've used cheese and bread, too. But frankly, it's just easier to stick my hand all the way in their mouths to deliver a pill. Then I give a treat afterwards.

Thanks for the tip on liverwurst! I emailed the Hemo Pet website with the same question and another nut butter is ok. But surprisingly enough his sensitivity/intolerance to "white fish" spreads over to other oily fish. I thought that white fish was only Codd, Pollack type fishes but the email from Jean Dodds herself said to avoid sardines and mackerel too. I am really glad I asked! Salmon and salmon oil are ok.

As you found, any other nut butter should be ok. Sun butter is also good.

You're right about the fish. Maggie tested positive for white fish. She did ok with sardines for a while, then it got worse and I realized it was on the list. She ate salmon every day for 3 years.

It sounds like they have made the report even more comprehensive than when we did it 4 years ago. I found it to be a very helpful tool.

Dr. Dodd's is wonderful! She was helpful with some of Myra's issues and I only look back and wish I would have saved some money with her results over the blood work test results. I use a piece of cheese for pills :) Good Luck and allergies suck!
