Hello from Northern Virginia!

Hello from Northern Virginia! My husband and I live in Alexandria, and we are currently looking for houses well-suited for newfs. I have been insisting on one-level houses with big backyards for a newf to play in. I don't want there to be a single room in the house that he won't feel welcome in.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to adopt a newf until the house hunt is over. We've narrowed it down to a few, so I'm starting to feel more comfortable exploring local rescue groups and breeders. I was hoping to get some recommendations about the best places to look for a newf in the MD/VA/DC area (or further if necessary). I know that I'll have lots of follow-up questions, so hopefully you guys won't get tired of me too quickly!

I grew up with two big newfies, and I miss them every day. I know that our family won't feel complete without one. <3

Welcome!!!

It's a bit farther for you, but That Newfoundland Place in CT is a wonderful rescue. Obviously your local rescue is a great resource too. Check your local Newf club for reputable breeders.

As far as houses go, we have a 2 story but our master bedroom is downstairs. So Ruby lives downstairs but has no need to go up. The cat lives there. So that can be another option if you don't find a single story home.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome!

And Brandie&Maggie, thank you for the rescue organization recommendation. I also love the idea of a master bedroom on the main floor. :)

Hi and welcome!! I live in Maryland. Please check out the Colonial Newfoundland Club. They have a few rescues currently and as Brandie stated, That Newfoundland Place in CT is a great rescue too. Colonial has a lot of events in Virginia. Hope to meet you at one of them. Best of luck in your house and Newf searches.
