Heat cycle/urination

Is it normal for a puppy going into first heat to want to urinate in the house? She's marking all over the yard but tonight she went in the house in front of me twice.

Yes. Treat it the same as you did during puppy training...but when you say "puppy"..how old do you mean, and are you certain she's going into heat and that it's not a bladder infection?

When Lilly was about 9 months old she started peeing on my bed right infront. It happened a few times. This was very odd behavior because she was fully housebroken. I spoke with our dog trainer about it and she said that she was going into heat. Not sure why it happens. Perhaps everything gets a bit swollen and puts pressure on the bladder??? Just a guess. Once we had her spayed it never happened again.

This happened to Koda around 11 months. She started going in the house, and I came to NewfNet wondering why my housebroken girl would do this. Sure enough it was the beginning of her heat cycle.

Faith just started doing this and she has started her first cycle. What had me concern was her frequency of going or trying to go and increase in water intake so I am just not sure if it her cycle or a urinary infection. Took her to the vet and there was an elevated white count in the urine but no bacteria present. She is on Amoxicillin. Should I be concern or is this normal.

Anytime a house trained dog starts urinating inappropriately, you should consult a vet. While it's not abnormal in females going into heat, it's still worth checking out. Besides UTI's, pyometra and other diseases, could be present. Don't just assume it's related to her cycle.
