Using Whelp Wise monitoring service and checking puppy heart rates with the doppler. Always amazed at the "clacking" sounds of a puppy's heart beat In Utero.

Hooked up the monitor last night and again this morning; transmission went well and Whelp Wise called back right away with results. So far, pretty impressed with the service and the staff!

Awesome..wait till you are HOLDING them..lol.

Looking forward to this! :grouphug:

Monitoring indicated 2 very slight contractions this morning. Puppies are very active, moving and kicking like crazy - guess they are excited to make their debut! Nice strong heat beats heard on doppler, all 220 to 240 bpm. I am thrilled with Whelp Wise - could not imagine whelping a litter without this service, even if it's just for peace-of-mind - well worth it IMO.

Oh my. I just clicked on the link you provided and the photo of the pregnant dog in a dress made me laugh out loud uncontrollably. HA! HA! The audio of the heartbeats is amazing. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my gosh! I've never seen an xray like that before! I'm practically in those goofy, gulpy, happy, excited tears. Just look at those tiny spines, and heads and appendages! Oh I'm so excited you've allowed us to peek in and be a part of this birth process. I'll be eagerly watching for every update you have time to share (which I would imagine there won't be a lot of time once the 'action' starts!)

All the best to the momma and to you too!

The X ray is awesome!!!! I have never seen that before. Was trying so hard to count them, think I missed a few. Felt like I was playing "where's waldo?" lol.

Thank you every one!

It is a very exciting time for us and I am happy to share this wonderful event. The technology available is always amazing and certainly something I am very grateful for.

I will post updates and photos as soon as I can, mostly on my website's Newf Nursery page. Cannot promise pictures right away, but will do the best I can considering how busy we will be in just a few days!

This is our first litter and I must say it is not something we took lightly - we put a lot of thought into this BEFORE we decided to breed Saphira. First and foremost, she had to have the beautiful Newfoundland temperament! Next, she had to pass all her health clearances - no exceptions. Then, we evaluated her structure comparing to the breed standard. Once these things were done, then and only then, did we truly consider breeding her. Next, was the task of finding a suitable stud - this was another process which took a great deal of time in thought and research. It's not just a matter of finding a nice looking male, but careful selection based on pedigrees, health clearances, what is behind and what they are producing, what we are trying to improve with this breeding, and more. Questions we asked ourselves; Why do I want to breed her? - What do I want to accomplish? - Can this improve the line? - Do we have the financial means for a breeding? - and a myriad of other questions.

Breeding is certainly not for the weak and should not be taken lightly! And I can honestly say, I have so much more respect for all the reputable breeders out there - they have invested so very much into this breed. I am a member of several regional clubs, as well as NCA - to me, this is another important area - the information, training, education, etc. is invaluable!

Again, this is a very exciting time for us and the opportunity to share this experience is phenomenal and hopefully a little educational for others. For anyone considering breeding, please take the time to research and find a reputable breeder-mentor before doing so. And for anyone looking for a Newfoundland puppy, the same is true - find a reputable breeder and mentor, someone who will be there for the lifetime of their puppies, and will offer guidance and education.

I can feel your excitement with your impending litter and am SO excited for you!!

You're in great hands with Whelp Wise. They are the best and are so good at what they do and you can tell they love their profession. The only "issue" I had was when I was up for 24 hours plus and and dog tired (no pun intented :icon_bb:) and they kept having me put my girl on doppler (understandably so!) to ensure that all the puppies were out. My girls were NOT so cooperative so a simple half hour session would turn out to be an hour long plus. And often times, we still didn't get a good read so we had to do it again. I kinda got a bit testy :eek:cuz I was so tired but they were patient and kind and wonderful. ( and i could hear them kinda quietly kick my ass...) What I love is that they called for a good week afterwards to check on Mom and pups and make sure all was well. It was wonderful to have that support system.

I lost a pup from my last litter the day after she was born and I was inconsolable. The staff at WW were so wonderful and kind and caring. And they truly understood what I was going through and were so reassuring.

I wish you the very best of luck with your first litter. This is such an exciting time for you all. Karen and her staff will make sure that you and your girl and her babes are A-OK and they will take excellent care of you all.

I wish you the very best of luck! And I'm sure we'll see some of these sweeties at next years National:new_smilie_colors1:

I had the privilege of witnessing the whelping of a newf litter a week ago! Pups weighed between 1.4 - 1.9 at birth. Sadly, two were lost:( Five healthy, thriving girls remain. I too have such respect for breeders...it is not for the faint of heart. Kim

So far, WW has been amazing! Karen is absolutely phenomenal, as well as rest of the WW team. Saphira's temperature has been dropping slowly. This morning temp was 99.5 and at 1:00 was 99.0. Currently have her hooked up for another monitoring session, then will take another temp and check heart rates again. She has been having 1 to 3 contractions with each hour session, so we will see what happens tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully we will have puppies within the next 24 to 48 hours. Reinforcements should be arriving at the airport in about 15 minutes!! Cherrie (Saphira's breeder) is flying out from California for the whelping!!! :)

Everything is ready, will get dinner made for us all, and try to get some sleep - I have a funny feeling we might be up sometime in the middle of the night!
