Have I completely lost touch with the world?

I was at my Lawyers today and he just had to show me the pics of his friend's new puppy. It's a Newf/Golden. I said how the heck did that happen and he said it's the new mix and very popular. Granted he lives outside of the city and maybe things are a little different there but do we actually have a new designer breed dog? My Lawyer is a Golden dog person who has two (one is even a rescue). I'd like to know when Newf/Goldens become the new designer breed. COME ON PEOPLE!!!!

hehehehe...sounds like someone got hoodwinked by a bad breeder to me. I think they have been bread together a way back in the day. I love my newfs, and i love my friends golden...they are great just the way they are.

Someone at our barn has one :(

If you google it, you will find all sorts of Newf mixes. I hate it.

Yeah, you can see them all over the internet if you google newfies or golden newfies. It's a sad sad thing. But I think it's also sad that the golden retriever has been downsized more and more in the past decade. A lot of the ones I've seen at the shows just look miniature imo. Or maybe my perception on dog size has just been skewed by the newfie size.

I think it has. The GRCA Breed Standard is very specific as to size and weight. They're much more stringent on size than the Newf standard is.

There are out of standard Goldens of course. I have two that are 90 lb males. That's a tad large. By about 15 lbs. And they're too tall for the breed standard. Both are about 27" at the withers. Disqualified!

Size, Proportion, Substance
Males 23-24 inches in height at withers; females 21½-22½ inches. Dogs up to one inch above or below standard size should be proportionately penalized. Deviation in height of more than one inch from the standard shall disqualify. Length from breastbone to point of buttocks slightly greater than height at withers in ratio of 12:11. Weight for dogs 65-75 pounds; bitches 55-65 pounds.

Deb is there really an Ontario Breeder (not that this surprises me) breeding this mix?

I have seen how they've now downsized the Goldendoodles and Labradoodles to that of a toy size dog. These dogs used to be large and now I'm seeing really small ones. I have not seen a Newf/Golden in the city as of yet though I guess it's only a matter of time. I just want to scream. Though like babies I think all puppies are beautiful but this particular mix (the pic I saw) was completely black and had the body of a Newf but the long snout of a Golden. I venture to say it will be a very strange looking dog when it grows up.

I don't "believe" the one I heard about is still doing it..... she's not in Ontario anymore.... three guesses where she's ended up :banghead:

Take a look on petfinder at 'newf' mixes...there are A LOT that look like big black goldens. my friend with the golden figured that's what a newfie should look like and was confused as to why the hell i didn't just get a normal sized one...that's when I started going to the park with them and pointing out newfs we saw. After we'd met a few, he started to get it (Thanks Wyatt!)

OMG, the bast---- are going to destroy two more breeds. Why or why can't we figure out a decent legal way to keep these SOBs from ruining our best friends?

My neighbor is involved with Goldendoodle rescue here. She's so busy that she's now trying to recruit anyone she can to help out. She gets litters of them when the "breeder" can't sell them. What a mess, and what a shame.

tux is a golden/newf mix. we arent sure about the lady selling them, also there is some speculation that she may be part of a puppy mill, there is no telling for sure. neither of the parents were on site and she couldnt give straight answers.

we find he took on more newf traits then golden, but he sometimes has the energy of a golden.. lol. the lady that eric got tux from did say they were a new "designer dog" which i thought was strange because i had never heard of them before..

either way. i love him and he is fantastic..

When you think about it, our beloved Newfs are already a "mix" of who knows what, according to the history of the breed. Guess people just can't be stopped from messing around with nature, but it's a crying shame, now that we have such lovely dogs as Newfs and Goldens. Why can't they leave it alone? If I want a Golden, I'll get a Golden and if I want a Newf, I want a Newf! :bah:

I am surronded by fellow workers that have these designer dogs. Don't get me started - scream - chia pom, labradoodle, goodledoodle and a puggle. OMG if anyone here at work gets a golden newf I don't know what I would do. The pounds are full of unwanted dogs. At our APL all dogs are $50 except big black dogs are $25. What does that tell you.

lol...well, they didn't say WHAT papers...I mean, I can print up something professional looking saying it's a certificate of blah blah blah, or enroll my cats in a monkey university and have them get medical degrees...LOTS of scams and people who just do not pay attention.
