Harness or backpacks

James is now almost 10 months old. When can I start putting a harness for carting or a backpack on him to get him use to it.I know they can't actually carry anything til they are older.But wouldn't it help him to have it just on his back?

You can put a harness on a dog of any age

I'd say James is ready to start his training!
A backpack would be fine too, he's old enough. Just don't load him up with too much weight.
For carting, get him used to the traces dragging behind him. Then on to attaching something to the traces, like empty milk jugs. Just move on from there. Lots of good books out there on carting and such too
