Halloween costumes...

The mvPTa (pet therapy) is having a meeting next weekend and we have to dress up for it. Anybody got any easy ideas?? It has to be something that a nervous dog like Sabrina won't be terrified of. Right now all we have is spiking the hair, maybe coloring it blue and adding a spike collar and maybe an earring.

I got Guido a large stretchy fabric kids pirate costume. It has pants (which I cut the butt out of for his tail, a sash, a bandana, and an eye patch. DOn't know if he'll deal with the patch or not. ;)

I'd look at some of the kids costumes, though. The stretchy fabric ones...maybe a princess dress? no...too flowy would tangle legs. Hm...an M&M?.....an Angel (could make a tin foil band and put in under her ears and they sell wings....

Let me think about it.....

A big buckeye... that would be Monty!!!! Sandy, where is the meeting? I'm still a member, and haven't read my the info.... bad.. bad bad bad!!!

ps... I got ladybug costumes for "the girls" last year at Joanne Fabrics... they're actually for children. You may want to check there...

I want Sailor to be a pirate too... but Russell is still hung up on getting a rubber glove, and blowing it up and tieing it to him so that he'll have an udder.... and voila! he'll be a cow.

I love that idea! I've always thought Landseer coats looked quite cow-like! :D

One year for decorative carting at the Nationals, we had a "Little Mermaid" theme going on. I had costumes made for the Newfs.

My big boy Drake was a shark complete with fins and a hat that had "teeth" around his face. He was quite dignified in the role and I think that he thought he looked very macho! Compared to the next year where he had to wear a lovely bonnet and a lace bib for "Tea for Two" he did!

My girl Diva was a goldfish in a gold lame costume with a big swishy tail and her headgear had big bubble eyes off the side. Diva who normally thinks things like this are beneath her was ok with it because after all shouldn't diva's wear gold lame?!

We also had an octopus and a couple of starfish. The costumes were made from childrens holloween costume paterns with a few modifications. We had a blast and I think the dogs did too. Now the human that was the "little mermaid" well once she found out it was being videotaped might have had other ideas!

There was a picture of Drake and Brooke Dunaway doing there Tea For Two skit in Newf Tide.

I don't know where the Little Mermaid pirctures went but I do have the video. I pull it out for blackmail material every now and then!

Not being overly creative, we dressed Jessee as a pumpkin one year. Bought an orange t-shirt with the pumpkin face on it and then made a pumpkin-lid hat out of a polar fleece type fabric and used a brown color for the stem. She wore the t-shirt backwards (so the face was on her back)and used elastic to keep the "lid" on her head.
Susan, I remember the Tea For Two- and I still have the photo on a floppy disk. It was adorable!

:D Tonka doesn't get dressed up. Instead he goes along trick or treating with our nephews. We put on his backpack and he helps carry all the candy the kids get. :0)

I don't have my note with me, but the meeting is in a brick building at Philadelphia and Hillcrest. I'll get the address when I get home.

We have decided to dress Gus punk-style for the meeting. We have green gel to spike his hair and got him a black leather collar with spikes & studs. Then we got him some studded wrist bands at the halloween store and a bike chain necklace to go with his collar. All this on a white dog should show up well. The gel says not to use on gray or white hair, so we will probably have to trim the green tips out after his bath. We have considered dressing Sabrina and taking her to the meeting, but we just don't think she would do well being around the other dogs while on a leash and in costume. I'm pretty sure we won't be able to get a costume on her at all at this point.

Yogi is going to be The King--Elvis, that is
I ordered a cape with gold lettering that says "Hound Dog King." Poor Yogi HATES it! He runs away whenever he sees me walking towards him with the cape. Just like he does when I want to put on his reflective vest. The only thing is, dog costumes only have sizes up to Large, so his cape is just a wee bit snug and short :( Why oh why don't they make costumes for size "gi-normous"??
