Greasy Fur in Ear Area

Ziva our 16 month old pup has really greasy ear fur. She is finishing up her 2nd heat and we gave her a bath 2 weeks ago because she was smelling funky. All the rest of her fur looks and feels great. I don't want to bathe her again so soon. Is this greasy fur indicative of anything else?

Some use a little Dawn dish soap near the area when bathing, some actually cut the hair (which is kinda better, so the air gets in there) some just take thinning shears & Dawn, which is what I do. It's normal, just ear gunk.

She could have an ear infection if the ear smells. Dawn dish soap is great to use around the ears and chest. Just don't get near the eyes. Trim all the hair around the ear to allow air flow. When you clean the ears if it is black/brown see a vet. Dogs usually get a yeast infection (like women get) in their ears. After the ear is healed you can use a 50-50 mixture of white vinegar and alcohol. The alcohol will dry the ear while the vinegar will kill bacteria.

Jordan used to get really greasy around the ears from allergies. His grease was so bad only several washes of the grease cutting soaps worked. But I began to think that the harshness and number of washes were aggravating the area to produce more oil. So on a hunch I bought organic coconut oil from the grocery and rubbed the paste into the greasy fur. Let that sit for a minute or two then washed with a gentle hypoallergenic aloe tea tree shampoo. I was amazed. Oil gone, skin fresh and smelling very nice. plus coconut oil is good for the skin. Dawn never worked for me.
