The interactive lecture I attended thursday evening on building a better canine body was very nice and very informative. It also confirmed a lot of what I have been learning in my research on canine nutrition. The best part is, I finaly found a Holistic Veterinarian in this area! She studied traditional medicine for a number of years before changing her practice over to a natural approach. She runs a caine fitness and rehabilation center, that focuses on the whole animal. She is wonderful. She looked over Baxter's exrays and wants to see him as a patient. We also talked about his hot spots and she has somethings she wants me to try. And get this, she got a kick out of the kids and insisted that I make my appointment when her son who is the same age as Alex gets home from school, so they can ride the horses, go go carting and just all around have a blast.

I have been searching for a Dr. like her in this area, and I finaly found her! I am very excited.
She offers a number of different approaches, like the under water tread mill, chiropractic, message, you name it. And she is very well versed in canine nutrition. We had a very interesting discussion about vitamins, suppliments, food, the canine immune system and various other topics. My boy is on the road to wellness now!

That's wonderful Rona. I know how important it is to have a Vet that you trust and are on the same wavelength with.

Prior to us moving here, I also had a Holistic Vet (he started the AHVMA - Dr. Tiekert) who originally was a traditional Vet. He practiced using both approaches, knowing that traditional medicine was sometimes necessary in emergency situations. However, once the emergency was over, he would treat the "whole dog" with a holistic approach.

Once you find someone like that, and really listen and learn, what they're saying just makes good sense. Of course, they need to be sensible in their treatment plan, but if you've found a good one, she's worth her weight in gold!

We moved away from Dr. Tiekert's area, but he's avialable to consult and assist if we or our current Vet needs him. Our current Vet is fantastic, but isn't "up" on the holistic approach. Fortunately he's open to it!

I hope it proves to be a long, successful and happy relationship! Good for you!

Good for you!
I also have an homeopathic vet, and I'm very happy!
He also analized Yuma's food to see if it was good enough for him.

Thank you guys, she is wonderful! She is concerned about the whole dog, their diet, their exercise routine, their mental and emotional well being, the whole dog, because all of these things can be a contributing factor. She likes to get at the cause and prevention, and not just treat a symptom and leave it at that.
