I just found out that there is a big dog show in Montreal this week-end. I checked the schedule and there are Newf showing at different times over the week-end plus there is a Newf 'Specialty' on saturday. What is the difference between the regular judging and the specialty?

I'm not an expert but I don't think there is a difference in the judging.

I think a Specialty is when a regional club has their annual show at the same time as a major show, kind of piggy-backing onto the venue etc.

But I could be wrong, it did happen in 1995.. :D

Yes, our regionals are held in conjunction with a regular show, therefore, the dogs can be shown twice in a day. The judge for the specialty is generally someone picked by the newf club, hopefully for their knowledge of the newf breed, where the the judge for the regular show is picked by the kennel club hosting the show.
In Alberta, we put on a regional specialty every second year. We try to have wonderfull trophies and give each entrant a great prize/gift as well.
