Giving me his eyes Question

My guy is being trained to stop and sit as I walk with him so he will learn to sit on command off leash. My question is Should I have the dog look up at me when he sits...giving me his eyes? Onleash he is preety good at staying with me and stopping, the sitting thing is coming along.I eventually want him to sit off leash....is this to much to hope for....he is a male and now when I ask him to sit offleash he barks at me but if I turn my back he runs up to me and pushes me in the ass ...is this his way of saying I want to play and not be on leash?
Armand and Blessed .....looking for other canine friends for him in my area

The Watch me command is one of the most useful i have ever taught my pups from little on, when they stare up into my eyes i drop a treat to them and say good watch,.
yes it is very useful becouse their attention is focused on you.
be careful with boisterous pups, you dont want them jumping to your face for the treat, i have never had trouble with it, but.. you never know.

you also need to be firm and strict with this boy, it sounds like he is trying to "push you around" or boss you around.
you tell him NO and BAd when he does that in a very firm and stern tone of voice.

I would expect the same eye contact "watch" off lead as I have on lead. Attention iv very important especailly off lead.
