I've been asked to coordinate some games for Newfies and their people to play. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? I thought of a kissing contest, and a water baloon contest, but ANYTHING would be greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU!!!

The doggy tic-tac-toe was a wonderful idea. Someone on NewfNet posted the rules here. basically you make a large tic-tac-toe board on the groound, divide the groups into two. Every time a group does a trick that the other group doesn't know how to do (roll over, bark on command etc.) they get to place a newf (and owner) on the tictactoe board.

Here are our doggy olympics rules (from our this year's waterwork camp in Finland). Hopefully you'll get some ideas from this.

Doggy Team Olympics

All groups consist of 6 dogs, every dog must compete in at least three events. Team members must decide among the group and let us know which dog will participate in which event.
Treats, toys, praises and commands may be used without penalization. The most important is a successful finish and having FUN with your dog, not calculating points !

Part 1 - Land Olympics

Event 1 - Koiramolkky

Dog may be sent or recalled through the molkky pins (the number of pins tipped over is the number of points received), or a dog may be sent to retrieve a single pin (the number on the pin is the points for the exercise). The team with the most points wins. Two dogs may participate.

Event 2 - Supperslalom - Slalom between plates of food

The quickest team to slalom between plates of food is the winner. Eating treats will delay the team by five seconds. All dogs must participate.

Event 3 - Lifeline – take a long line

A long line is given to a dog to carry as far as it will. The owner can walk next to the dog to encourage it to take the long line further. If the dog drops the line and retakes it without the owner touching the rope, the dog may continue with it. The next team member will continue from where the last dog of the same team dropped it. The group to pull a long line the furthest wins. All dogs may participate.

Event 4 - To Click or Not to Click

One team members uses a clicker to guide the other team member to perform a simple task. Points will be given on the knowledge of the use of the clicker. Two team members must participate.

Event 5 - Musical Chairs

All teams walk around in a circle to music. Once the music stops, the dogs must be guided to sit on a designated place as quickly as possible. The slowest team will be out on every round until there is a winner. Two dogs may participate.

Part 2 – Water Olympics

Event 6 - Helping Hands – Retrieve four gloves

Four gloves with number values will be thrown in the water. The dogs must go and fetch the gloves. The points on the first glove will be multiplied by 4, second glove by 3, third by 2 and last by 1. The team with the highest points will win. Two dogs may participate.

Event 7 - Free Willy
The owner must get on a blow-up whale, paddle a short distance to fetch a bumper. The owner’s dog will be sent to pull the owner and whale back to shore. The owner must try to throw and aim the bumper into a “goal” on shore from the distance where the dog lets go of the rope on the whale. Points will be given from fetching the bumper, the return to shore and target throw. Two dogs may participate.

Event 8 - Finders Keepers – Retrieve three miscellaneous objects

Three objects (oar, boat and bumper) will be thrown in the water, all objects must be brought back to shore. Points will be given for the retrieves. Two dogs may participate.

Event 9 - Help Me – Saving an unconscious victim

A dog must go out to save an unconscious victim from the water by taking the hand. Points will be given on how fluently the exercises are performed. Two dogs may participate.

Event 10 - Rescue3 - Team rescue

One dog will jump out of the boat and swim to shore, the second will go out to save a drowning victim and the third to fetch the boat. Points will be given on how fluently the exercises are performed. Three team members may participate.

Participating teams: Get in touch with your group members as soon as possible, so that you have time to decide which dogs will participate at which events.

At Newfie Fun Day in Ontario we played Musical Hoops, that was alot of fun. Just like musical chairs. Also they played carry the dog treat on the spoon and the winner was the one who did not drop it. A game we did not try was bobbing for hotdogs, Nana is not food motivated.

Tug Relay. 2 dogs share a roped tug toy and tug each other to the next team. 1st dog over the line gets to share the toy and tug across the other way. 1st team over the final line wins.

I thought someone mentioned a trick game. That you have your dog do a trick, then all the others have to do that trick. Elimates the ones that can't do the trick. I think Rivernewf mentioned it once before.

This one is great for the Newfs. The Longest Drool Contest. Have all newfs sit with there owners in front. Each owner/handler has a hot dog or some other tasty treat. Temp the newfs with the treat and the newf with the longest drool at the end of a minute wins. Another tasty game is who can lick the peanut butter the quickest. Put a good size helping of peanut butter on a large spoon or paper plate at the word go the newfs begin to lick the peanut butter. First newf done wins.

a bunch of us got together with the dogs over new years.....we had an interesting and hilarious 'contest' of sorts. We voted on which human/dog pair was the best dancing pair...it came out of how much we detest Dancing with the Stars and how dancing with the dogs would be so much more entertaining.

Anyhow, we were a little drunk, so it was pretty funny. According to my friend Shelly, I don't shake my ass very well. She got up and demonstrated. We have it on video, locked on a vault...she'd kill us is she knew. She got up with Sulley and danced, and both of them had the biggest butt jiggle going on....I'm pretty sure I peed I was laughing so hard.

She was dancing to this song(NOT WORK OR KID FRIENDLY):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7B5KwXHFtw

The course is essentially "Shake ya a$$, watch yourself" if you don't care to listen that far in. It's a fairly raunchy rap number. Anyhow, Shelly and Sulley both had their cabooses rolling during this one and it was pretty funny.

Minus the booze it might be a fun idea for the GTG.

Edited to add: skip the song too! It was funny in a select group of adults, but not a chance in hell I'd ever play that kinda stuff in public.

A fun one that we did at one of the get-togethers was a peanut butter licking contest. Load up a bunch of plastic spoons with approximately equal amounts of PB and let the dogs lick 'em clean!

Oh, and bobbing for boiled eggs was really fun too! Give each team a peeled boiled egg to be dropped in a tub of water and time them to see how long it takes the dog to get the egg from the bottom of the tub.

We did musical sits (instead of chairs) - the last newf to sit (no treats) was eliminated - that was fun with fun music. Also, we've done relays where the newfs had to wear head gear (like bunny ears, etc) and keep it on during the relay. :) Oh, and how many hot dog pieces the newf could catch in 30 seconds.

We did tic tac toe with down stays. X goes, puts their dog in a down stay. O goes, puts their dog in a down stay, and so on. If a dog gets up, they're off the board then you can steal that spot.

Also the trick-for-trick contest is great. Someone does a trick, and the other team has to match it. If they can't, then point! You get to see some really creative tricks, and find out what your Newf can do that you didn't even know!! (Good memory, Dawn!)

Like Capri said, you can combine the two and do tic tac toe with the winning trickster taking the spot, x versus o.
