Fruits & Veg ...

Hi all:

I'm trying to remember what fruits you shouldn't feed a dog - I remember grapes and onions but is there anything else?

Also can you feed pineapple? My Mom and Dad are dogsitting a Standard Poodle and Mom bought a fresh pineapple and Luna was just begging for some while she cut it up.

Thanks for the info. in advance.

Charlie, if u like i can share the diet that i have Tuggs on. This is where u can find it. hhttp://schlereth.archives.nd.edu/Marg.html and click on Marg willmott: Menter and Friend ,There u will find the TOPMAST natural rearing diet of Juliette de Bairacli Levy (Levy Diet) Tuggs is thriving on it! But if u decide to go this route i would sugest u contact your breeder or vet. Bridget

Oh i forgot the other foods not to feed are chocolate onions and yellow cheese , white cheese an cottage cheese are good . They cant digest yellow cheese ,When i first got tuggs ,sometimes i would give him a little yellow cheese and he would through it up , he would also cant tolerate milk although he can clabered or buttermilk. This Levy diet ids really fun and he really seems to like it . I cant say that i am to thrilled with the meat part of it . and it is time consuming .Even if u dont choose to go this route its still an interesting site . Bridget

Thanks
Bridget for mentioning yellow cheese. Twice we've been through diarrhea episodes with Kodi eating cheese and now I know for sure this is what got him sick.

Bridget,
Thanks for the link to the website. I found it very interesting and informative. By the way, I see you read the past post about Sara's heart condition. Just to let you know that Sara is doing wonderfully. She still coughs sometimes, but the cardiologist said she had a dog that coughed for years and could not find a reason. Anyway, Sara is eating well and looking good. At the age of 10 1/2 (she will be 11 in May) she has slight arthitis in one hock and is still some days, but then aren't we all. She is wonderful Thanks for asking

I find that interesting.... My boys eat white chesse, yellow, American and Cheddar with not problems. They eat grapes, parsnips, carrots, most any vegetable in the house that I give them. If they don't like it, they spit it out. I have mentioned that I feed them vegetables to the vet, and she seems to see no problem with it.

BTW Angus is 11+ and Mowgli is 8+ and both in good health.

We have a grapevine and the grapes hang quite low.

Last year all the grapes were missing on the lower part of the vine, all the bunches stripped of grapes!

One day we looke dout the back door and saw Rory sitting with her back to us, daintily plucking each grape off the vine individually!

I can just imagine Rory picking up grapes
!
Misha is also crazy about grapes and I think she would have done the same if we had any grapes in her reach. I just can't get over grapes not being good for dogs. I think it's Misha's favorite fruit
!

My dogs all come running when they hear the bag of baby carrots. My mom started them on their favorite game. So now nobody is allowed to eat carrots without playing that game. You take a small bite of the carrot, hold it in your front teeth so they can see it, and spit it into the air. Then it's every dog for him/herself. Quark's coordination isn't real great yet, so he usually just hopes for the pieces that hit the ground!

Thats so funny about the grapevine ! My yellow lab likes to pick tomatoes of the vines in the summer in my garden ,we get a kick out of that , case he only gets the ripe ones, and if we dont watch him he will pick as many as he can off the vines lol
