Graceland's Hound Dog - Elvis - 1/17/2008 - 11/14/2018

Elvis peacefully fell asleep at home this afternoon, two months shy of his 11th birthday. He has been the BEST dog and our hearts are absolutely shattered. We knew it was coming - we made the call on Monday - but that doesn't make it any easier.

His legs just couldn't keep up with his huge heart and he was starting to really struggle. It was the right thing to do, but I can't believe he's gone.

Elvis arrived two weeks after we bought our first house. He was here for the wedding. He was here for the move to Ohio. He was here for all our advanced degrees (my husband even dedicated his PhD thesis to him). He was here for the years of waiting and negative tests. He was here when we finally (finally!) welcomed our daughter. He was here when we were lucky enough to welcome our second daughter. He was here when we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary.

And now.....now he's there instead of here. Until we meet again, big guy. Rest well. You deserve it.

Maggie, I am so sorry! My heart sank when I saw this. I’ve always been a big fan of Elvis. For what it’s worth, he will always be a special part of your hearts and your family memories, especially because he was there for all those important milestones. Our Elvis was a Siberian Husky named Bacchus. We got him the first year of our marriage and he was there through 5 years of infertility struggles and the births of our three children. He died when our youngest was 5. That was 25 years ago, and my older daughter and I were just talking about him the other day. Elvis will always be with you, but I know how much this hurts.
I still remember a reference you made once to taking Elvis for his “nightly drag down the road.” That perfectly captured what it is to be a Newf!
