My vet is now thinking Sadie (10 months) has ectopic ureters. She is going in Monday to get and IV catherter for a uring culture and sensitivity test as well as getting dye injected and xrays taken to see whats going on anatomically. Has anyone been through this experience or know what a corrective procedure would be like (recovery time, cost, effectiveness)?? I am very worried about my girl and want her to feel more comfortable and get better!!

If you haven't already searched Ectopic Ureters on this forum there are multiple threads and some of them are really informative. I just searched because I had never heard of it and was thinking of and confusing that with urethras.

Yes, I read a few of them. I was most interested in one that mentioned a new technique used that was more effective, so I will for sure be researching it and finding out which method will be done on my girl (if neccessary, that is). None of the posts mentioned how it all worked out in the end, which is why I was asking. Id hate for her to have to endure all that to have nothing change :-/

Ectopic Ureters can easily be diagnosed via an ultrasound. The puppy will always 'leak' and be wet. Most treatment options/surgeries do not work. unfortunately.

Well, that is has me worried. Would you recommend a treatment option like surgery if isnt effective in most cases??

Is she always leaking urine and wet? That is ectopic ureters.
What about the culture and sensitivities on a urine specimen?
What is the longest period of time that she has been on a course of antibiotics, eg. One week, 10 days etc?

Angela, yes. Since I brought her home at 3 months she has woken up with a wet but. Occasionally she will dribble, even before she was fixed. So i dont think its spay incontinence. Shes been diagnosed a few times as having a UTI and given 10 days of antibiotics. Usually amoxicillan. Our vet never asked for a recheck after she was done with her meds, so im thinking its never been treated properly and never fully went away. Idk if it could be ectopic ureters and a UTI or not.
