Ear grooming

Oh I need such help, I am having a terrible time trying to figure out how to groom my newfies ears. If someone can tell me step-by-step how to do it, I would so much appreciate it. I have looked at pictures at their ears and it looks like there is very little hair on the ear. My newfie has alot of hair on the ear and behind the ear. I tried to cut it tonight but it looks very choppy. Any, help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Heather

Hi Heather

I know what you mean. Winnies ears used to look choppy when I'd finished with them too. I don't know if using a pair of scissors with one straight blade and one blade with teeth in them would help. I don't know what they call them but I think they thin the hair and feather it whilst cutting it shorter and you don't get such a blunt edge.

Those scissors are called "Thinning Shears" and yes they do help!

I bought an electronic trimmer and I use that now. It takes SO much less time.

It takes some practice. Don't worry - your Newf won't feel stupid.

Okay, I am investing in a good pair of thinning shears. I'll let you guys know how I do. Anything has got to look better than the way Kaysie does now.

Thanks,
Heather

Heather-
You probably know about this already, but there's a website for a store called "R.C. Steele" - they have very reasonable prices, and just about every grooming device you could possible need (as well as many other things -)
Best yet, it's delivered to your door...!

R.C.Steele online is very easy to navigate and to place an order. We had purchased the thick fleece throws and a crate liner for Kodi's crate when he was a puppy, and would always find him sleeping on the black plastic tray instead. He wouldn't sleep on them. We had no trouble at all returning the items. PetCo.com has the same return policy and they too are online.
