Duralactin

Thought I would post a quick update on Roger....He's been on Microlactin for 2 weeks. I ended up not doing the loading dose because I was concerned about his stool. He's been getting 1000mg 2x a day. Like I said earlier, within a few day's he was going up the deck steps without any hesitation. I've also noticed him getting up a lot more. I've also noticed him more spunky and voicing his opinion a lot more:) A few more things I noticed is his thigh muscles seem tighter. They have not been good since his knee issue's. This means he is using his hind legs more, where he usually just dragged them a lot. He walks with his head held higher which in turn is throwing his weight to the rear and working the rear muscles.
The two biggest shockers are that he is coming outside more in the heat. Roger never wanted out during these discusting day's of summer. He walks with us almost every day or wants his seperate walk. The other shocker is when he wanted his seperate walk this morning, when I had no time left, I leashed him and took him without putting his boots on his rear paws. To my surprise, he wasn't dragging his feet at all. I kept him walking slow and talking to him to keep his attention. We walk in the woods but have to walk on some concrete to get there. I did not hear his nails drag once!!!
I hope this is a good sign and I will keep seeing improvement. Roger is only 6 1/2 and I hope there will be no negative effects of the Microlactin for long term use.
His stool is still a little soft at times, but I will not worry unless he is dropping weight. His weight will be checked friday when he has blood drawn to see how his thyroid is doing on the meds.

Wow, Jane. Sounds like a miracle drug. I started Tiika on Monday at supper. I'm doing the loading dose - 200mg twice a day for 14 days then 1000mg twice a day. Her limp hasn't changed yet. She only limps when she first gets up from lying down for a while. Once she's moving she seems fine but those first 6-8 steps she really limps badly on her front Rt leg. If the microlactin doesn't help, I'm thinking I may have to have an x-ray done to see what's going on. I think it's just arthritis from an injury around one year and two re-injuries since then. She always seems to fall on that same leg since the first time.

I started Samantha on just under 1 1/2 teaspoons twice a day on 6/13. Today is 6/22 and she is doing well. She has not had any previcox and is doing fine. She is getting around without a lot of problems. So far so good.

Anyone care to update on the Duralactin/Microlactin results yet, have you seen any improvement?
I'm still sure it is helping Grace.

I'm waiting to start Sydney on it until the sore on her leg is all cleared up. I'm really hoping it will help her.

I started Chance (almost 13), Addie (ortho trainwreck), Mira (spondylosis) and Ray (ED) on it when I received it. They're all doing better on it than they were without it.

Chance actually jumped off the end of the loveseat about 3 days after starting him on it. Ray's limping less (but he'll always limp since the elbow isn't "connected' correctly). Mira seems more lively and even tho her back didn't appear to bother her, perhaps it did. Addie...hard to tell because she's staying inside far away from the heat, but she's moving with a spring in her step.

Unfortunately, I had to take Roger off it for now, due to constant loose stool he has had since before I started him on it. He does have a mild allergy to milk, so I took him off it to try and figure out what's going on. In the few day's he's been off it, I have seen a change. Definately, not as active as he was. Hasn't walked in a few day's.
We rechecked his thyroid and it is now too high. The vet cut the med in 1/2 and told me you can see loose stool if the thyroid is too high. It's only been about 36 hours since she cut the dose and he has already had more normal stool than loose stool.
I'm hoping to get him back on the microlactin.

Skye's limp is definitely better....not gone, but better. And since her limp is better, she's more active and even a bigger pain in the butt that usual! I love that girl.

What dose are you all giving? I'm giving 1000 mgm twice a day, was giving Evan 1500 mgm twice a day but reduced it now to the 100 mgm.

Samantha is doing very well. I cannot believe she is now pushing herself up with her rear end instend of pulling her self up my walking forward. I don't think I'll see running but to me, this is just as good. This Tuesday on 7/5 she will be 13 years and 7 months! She is too onery to get/act old, but that's my Sammy girl!

Well, Roger is back on the Microlactin and within 3 day's of 1000mg 2x a day, he is back to wanting to walk, getting up easy, not dragging his toes. I just find this amazing!
