or in my case here it's Microlactin. Suggested by Susan Ivoryudx. Bought some at the local vitamin shop on Monday. Today Gracie is running, I can't believe what great stuff this is:new_smilie_colors1:

It is amazing isn't it? Samantha is being so sassy I've threatened to stop giving it to her. Only kidding. It does my heart good to see her acting years younger.

Yes! It seems to be GREAT stuff! No side effects either. I'm thinking about trying the human version for myself! :)

Gillian, you can purchase it online at KVpet.com or several other places. My vet sells it at his cost and he's the one who recommended I start Lu on it. I'm very pleased with the results, and may start my boy, Coast, on it as well.

I was hesitant to start Sam on it because it is made from milk and she is allergic to all dairy except eggs. I do think, at her age, the benefits outweigh the cons.

I said this before. I bought the equine duralactin. Sam gets not quite 1/4 teaspoon a twice a day. Much cheaper.

Thanks Angela for posting about this stuff here. I hope more people will try it and let us know if it helps. For those who have not followed the 'senior' newf threads we have been discussing this in a couple different places over the last couple of months.

This is the thread that talks about Microlactin.

Towards the end of this thread is when I first mentioned that my vet wanted to try it on Lu.

Question... Those of you that are using it now, are you giving this in addition to joint supplements or as a replacement for them? Just placed an order.

Jen, I phoned all the Health food stores in Victoria. The Vitamin Shop stocks it, google it because they have an online service.
Yes, I'm using it to replace other joint supplements.
I am giving 1000 mgm twice a day.
If you go for the Duralactin you have to order from the States and I was concerned about having to pay duty.
This is exactly the same, but for people product.

I have used the feline formula with my cats with excellent results. But, not for joint support, for immune support. If I notice any sniffles with a cat I give duralactin before it turns into an upper respiratory issue that can spread like wildfire through the whole household. Seems to stop the sniffles within a day or two. I've been very happy with it and will definitely look into if for the dogs.

I have a Vitamin Shop right near me. I'm going to do what Angela is doing. I'll dose it the way she does. I would love to see Roger have some relief in his knee's!

After seeing this, I looked it up online and noticed that the Duralactin for dogs is much more expensive than the Microlactin (human version). You can get 120 1000mg tablets of Microlactin for humans for $15. Or 180 of Duralactin for dogs for $47. HUGE difference in price per pill.

Amazon has the most extensive supply of both from different stores.

There are also 500 mg vs 1000 mg tablets (in various forms, flavored or not). And there is one that's mixed with joint supplements for dogs.

I have a few here I'd like to try it on (the regular Duralactin), so I ordered the horse version(exactly the same stuff) of vanilla flavored granules (in a 3.75lb bucket), which is the least expensive of all.

One of the links I was scrolling through on Amazon for the dog version had a weight/dose guide.

Oh, and when looking at the manufacturer's site I noticed that they said it's lactose free.

Jane I just went to Amazon and started looking at pricing for Duralactin canine, Microlactin (human), and then looked at the Equine version.

Then I made sure it's all the same thing, and started comparing prices. I *think* the way I found the manufacturer was just a google search...and then I clicked on that link and read it. I'll see if I can find it again.

I was just doing pricing/information searches.

OK...here's the Duralactin manufacturer's page (with all kinds of info about the product) It does have a method of contacting them tho: http://www.duralactin.com/product.htm

Here's the human version (note the price) Swanson is the main manufacturer of Microlactin: http://www.amazon.com/Microlactin-Double-Strength-000-Tabs/dp/B0017O5QUC

Versus the dog version cheapest I found (note the price): http://www.amazon.com/Duralactin-Canine-180-Chewable-Tabs/dp/B00076KQ10/ref=pd_rhf_shvl_1

Here's what I got...equine version (same stuff in a granule): http://www.amazon.com/Duralactin-Eq...1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1307296833&sr=1-1

OK...I found it...it's NOT lactose free. It's about 90% lactose free. I found it on the Swanson information (who makes the Microlactin for humans) TG for Google. :) http://www.swansonvitamins.com/DAZ572/ItemDetail
