So.. I would like to try Murphy on this product Dog Gone Pain. It sells in Canada at my pet store but is $45 !!! for 60 tabs. Since he would need 4 a day there is no way I can afford it. :ah: I found a company on line that sells it for just over $20 a bottle.

Here is my question. Have any Canadians purchased this on line from an American company and do you have to pay customs/duty??

Sophie was on DGP for awhile after her first cruciate tear and it seemed to help with the stiffness/discomfort. I would recommend the product.
I found a site that has it for 21.50 per bottle of 60 and ships to Canada. It says the average cost of Canadian shipping is 4.50-7.00 per order. If you give them a call they can probably answer questions about customs charges and stuff....800-772-5568.

You also might want to look into Hyaluronic Acid. That seems to help Sophie the most of anything I have tried....And it doesn't upset her stomach!

Glad you brought this up Jen. I have been wondering the same thing. In Manitoba it is not to be had & for me to order it from Ontario it would cost me around $50 & tax & shipping.

nowhavethreebears: What is Hyaluronic Acid? Is it a pain reliever? How much & how often do you give it.

Hyaluronic acid is an intergral part of connective tissue and cartilage. It is a glycosaminoglycan. Humans with severe arthritis get injections of it directly into the affected joints to try to rebuild the "padding" in the joint.
Sophie already had arthritis in her hips and spine BEFORE she tore both cruciates. While she was healing from her injury and pretty much immobile she got so stiff she could not get up.
Someone on here suggested I try it. It does not work for everyone but it did WONDERS for Sophie. Within a week she was less stiff and I could tell she was much less uncomfortable getting up and down. She was on it for about five months then I gradually weaned her off it.
It is not a steroid or narcotic and you can give it with any other meds she is on.
I am getting it at wal-mart in 20 mg caps. I was giving her two a day with her morning feed. I think there is 60 caps in the bottle which lasts 30 days and it's about 8.00 a bottle here.
It's worth a try if you can find it. If no luck at wally world try health food type places, or walgreens, CVS, etc. if you've got one there.....

Jen another product that Denise and I use is Hip Health and it is excellent. We buy one 5lb tub that lasts for one year for $120 each and we get one for free. So you are getting 3 for the price of 2. Both Nana and her dog Fred use this product and we both feel it helps with their joint issues. The Vet sells the same thing for $200 plus tax. If you want e-mail me and I will give you the proper website and you can talk to them

The price is high in pet stores here too Jen. As it is from the manufacturer. I'd keep checking around...or contact the manufacturer to see who their distributors are for Canada. Then contact them.

It looks like Anita has a link that might work for you. And $21.50 per bottle is a very good price.

Do contact them and ask if you order several bottles at a time, what the shipping would be. It looks like several bottles at once would constitute an "order". Even eight bottles (which is what I buy at a time) doesn't weigh much at all.

Here's the quote for Canada from Anita's link above:

Orders are shipped to Canada by International Airmail, Global Priority or Global Express Airmail through the postal service. The shipping cost depends on the weight of the package. Most orders cost between $4.95 and $7.00 If you would like quotes on other shipping methods to Canada, please call 800-772-5568.

DGP worked wonders for Addie when she tore her cruciate. It also works amazingly well on our older dogs with arthritis. Sasha, our Golden will be 14 in January and still runs around the field a couple of times a day and happily goes for a long walk with me once a day. Chance (Newf) will be 11 in October and he's on it too. He never seems to be in any pain, either. Take them off of it...and they definitely slow down, and move more gingerly, if at all. They hurt.

Oh...and there has never been any indication of stomach upset from it. I give it with a meal. Glucosomine, however, HAS upset some tummies here now and then.

I've heard that a lot of the supplements sold for horses can be used for dogs with great results and at a lower cost than if you bought them packaged for dogs. I've seen a few at my local Tractor Supply for joint issues that have great ingredients, and come in large tubs (since they are for horses) but many show the dosage for dogs too. I saw one with MSM, Ester C, shark cartilidge and I think the hyaluronic acid. May be worth a look...

Don't know if this product is available in Canada but I switched Max from GDP to SOD4000 because of cost and saw a recommendation on here (can't remember from who...) He did well on the GDP but is doing great with the SOD 4000. Maybe check out some equine suppliers locally.

Just picked up some Hyaluronic Acid at my local health food store. 60 tabs @ 50mg each for $41.99. That was the cheapest they had.
Have not looked into walmart, costco ect., their website [canadian] does not show everything they carry.

It's been a few years now so I don't remember exactly what it is called in human medicine but I had injections in my knees of hyaluronic acid over a period of several years and it put off the knee surgery- oops name came back- Syn Visc- pretty sure that was the same stuff. Worked great for several rounds.
