I feed a combination of fresh food along with Nutro. For instance, for my baby Nani, I soak one meal out of her three with homemade chicken soup (salt-free). For her other two meals, I mix it with brown rice. Veggies, fruits are also a part of her diet and I'm careful as to the amounts.

For my kittens, I make sure to feed them fresh meat every day (chicken, turkey, organ meats) along with their Nutro Kitten food.

My point is, this is a balance that works for my animals. You just have to use your judgement on what you think your Newf would benefit from the most.

I haven't heard of Neuro, but will definitely look for it. Sounds good.I was thinking of 'California Natural'(contains human grade ingredients) and 'Innova' for my puppy. Also Nutro Lamb and Rice. In Nutro, they have glucosomine and chondritin added in the ingredients....would that have any effect if puppy would later need the same vitamin supplements?

Okay, here's another one, EaglePack (http://www.eaglepack.com/). Curious to see what the veteran Newf owners make of this brand.

Does anyone feed Innova brand? It's human consumption grade and seems to have alot of natural ingredients.

Brenda

Well Hpond , i personaly wouldnt feed that brand to my tuggs .BUT i say that because it has glucosomine in it. I just dont think any dog needs that UNLESS they already have a problem , ( the old saying if isnt broke dont fix it). Thats just what i would do ,im sure there are thousands that would disagree with me. By no means dont go by what i say , U really have to decide that for yourself and do alot of reasearch. But for me i would make the choice not to give the food with glucosomine in it.

I agree. When considering the brand, especially since it's gluc. and chon. vits. that did make me stop and think.

What you feed your pup is your decision absolutely but as in everything, it is best to be informed of both sides of the story. I just read this:

Glucosamine is a very important dietary supplement for puppies 10 weeks to 14 months. This is a critical period for joint development. Any portion of dosage not needed by the system will simply be urinated out. Please continue with Vitamin C for the life of the dog.

Culled from Your New Puppy

I don't give Baby Nani the actual supplement but only what's in the Nutro Large Breed Puppy food as well as a balanced portion of organ meats, veggies and some fruits. I do give the powdered supplement to Bear (my 11 year old Chow)for the arthritis he's developed in his left hip and it's helped tremendously. He no longer limps in the morning and even runs and bounces around a little with his baby sister.
But that's what the glucos was made for.

Just my imput and like Bridge said, not to be relied on.

Hi guys
just remember dog food companies advertise they add GL Chond
but i bet they cook it out, or it is not fresh, and looses its potency, i am a firm believer in supplimenting with FRESH
ingredients, adding vit E C and Springtimeinc.com Glucosamine and Chondriton.
along with the bee pollen they sell.
all these are in their true form and utilized correctly. i KNOW they are getting fresh vit and suppliments.
i dont buy the latest catchy phrase that the dog food companies use.
a great brand i use is Wysong the synorgen formula.

Wysong? The brand developed by Dr. Wysong?

I personally found Wysong to have WAY to MUCH protein and Fat percentages , doctor or not. U need to stay as close to 20 % protein and 10 % fat as you can , and the way i feel about supplements is if it isnt broken dont fix it! But as i say again these are my rules to follow . to each his own

You are correct, to each his own,
one thing i noticed with this food, is my landseer are WHITE, as Bright white as can be, with NO brown staining Whatsoever, wich can happen due to dog food or water.
also, supplimenting is something i do becouse like i stated above, in my humble opinion, i would consider myself ignorant not to suppliment, especially with the cooking process these foods go thru and you dont get them fresh from the factory, unless you order from the wysong or other specialty dog food places.
so, with that, i will continue to HELP support the joints in young growing newfs, who go thru awkward growth stages, who over compensate when they are rear high, and need the support of GL and Chond.
