Cysturnia Carrier

Why breed a dog found to be a Cystinuria carrier? We are looking for another puppy and think we are following the right steps...I ran across one of the planned breedings that is with a dog that is a carrier. I have to assume that she will be bred with a sire that is clear and as we don't plan to breed I am only asking for curiosity sake...

Thankfully someone explained to me about limited gene pools and the problems that can cause. Also I googled cysturnia and I wasn't aware how affected Newfoundlands are by this. That is why I love this forum! I learn something new everyday!

If the dog is bred to a Clear, then it is ok. That is why the testing is done, so a carrier is not bred to another carrier or affected. If the breeder has done this testing, then they sound like a responsible breeder trying to avoid the disease in the pups.

Yes, the sire is clear. In my ignorance of how prevalent it is in Newfs, my initial curiosity was why breed a carrier at all. Now I understand that to not breed carriers would even further limit the gene pool.
