Corn Cob

So, Turner opened the kitchen trash last night and ate 1 and a half corn cobs. Not sure if he chewed or not.....and I'm worried sick this will cause an obstruction. I tried to give him hydrogen peroxide to make him vomit, but after two doses....nothing. Called the ER vet and they didn't think forcing him to vomit something like a corn cob would be good.

Anybody else have any experience with something like this?

I guess it is just a waiting game to see what comes out?

Turner is SOOO bad about eating crap he shouldn't. This will do him in one day.....just hope it isn't now.

I agree...if he hasn't vomited it yet, don't try to make him. It can do more harm coming back up.
Yes, my Gabriel ate one, gosh, I guess well over a year ago now.
I fed him milk-soaked bread at the vet's suggestion. He passed bits of corn and cob for probably close to a month......
Like you, I didn't SEE him eat it. I just knew he did.
Gabriel loved the bread and my neighbors probably though I was nuts following my dog around the yard with a flashlight at 1 AM. I did check every poop for several weeks.
Here's hoping Turner passes it through without incident.
I have heard of dogs passing corn cobs up to six months to a year after being consumed.....

Robin is on POOP PATROL.....she's reported a few small bits of corn/cob. Nothing major.

Dang it. I hate that this happend.

I may never eat corn on the cob again......

The good news is that it *will* dissolve with stomach acids (Yay! Biodegradable food! ...unlike the shower plug), so as long as there are no obstructions, it will eventually make it out one way or another.

Yeah.....I'll never forget the "shower plug"......I thought about that last night as a matter of fact.

It may but GAD said when Dasiy vomited the corn cob it had been in her stomach for almost 2 months.

Our Goldens Sasha and DD used to eat corn cobs ALL the time (we used them in compost and they'd always go have a snack), when they were young. No problems, ever. They did chew them, like a bone. They'd gnaw on them...which we knew because we'd find chewed on pieces.

Sasha lived to be over 14 and DD lived to be 13, with no blockage from any of the garbage they ate. :)

I wouldn't worry too much, but definitely keep an eye on him for a couple of weeks.

Oh no! Sure hope everything comes out OK. Being a natural substance I would think things would digest or pass through without too many problems but I've never had this experience. Sending good thoughts to Turner.

Mojo did this. We took him to the vet to xray his stomach and she said he did a fantastic job chewing it up cause it was all just mush so should pass without issue. We took him to the vet because Murphys brother did this and it did cause an obstruction and he ended up losing a good amount of intestine from the damage it did. So could you run him in for an xray to see if he chewed it well? I'd watch closely for signs of obstruction because I'm a big worrier since Murph has been obstructed 3 times and we almost lost him the one time. Not trying to be a downer but I'd take him in to see if you can get a better idea of what you're dealing with.

Reggie Reggie Reggie. You name it she has eaten it. Yes the night before our water test. She got at least 1 ear of corn. I found her in the living room with this stuff on her front paws that looked like corn muffin mix. I got closer and she just licked her chops. Nothing. I think she even passed her WD that day. I was up all night freaking out about the test and worried that she would bloat. Don't worry. Keep an eye out but it will probably work out ok.

Oh Turner! You need to not worry your family like that!! Silly boy.

I sure hope things "come out" all right! Saying a prayer that there aren't any complications.

Oh no! I can't imagine him not chewing up something that size. Hopefully it come's out ok. Merlin has eaten so much stuff he shouldn't and luckily it always come's out fine. The only time he got sick was when, as a puppy, he ate styrofoam. He threw it up very quickly and has never touched it again.

I think it depends a lot on whether they chew it or not. We actually used to GIVE them the corn cobs years ago when we had just two dogs, and they would lay, holding them with their paws, and leisurely chew away at them. Never any issues. Now that I have more dogs, they try to swallow them in chunks, so I don't give them anymore. If he was not "caught" with it, chances are pretty good that he chewed it up and savored it.

Morgan's sneaked small pieces left over from the raccoons, etc. They like to bring cobs into our yard sometimes to eat. No idea why it has to be our yard but they do now and then. Guessing it's the rain water barrel so they can get drinks while eating?
Good luck Turner!! Hope it all ends well.
