Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome and diet

If this needs to be moved to the senior thread that is ok wasn't sure where to post.

Bailey has been having some difficulties lately so I took him to the vet. They did blood work came back clean he did have a little bit of a uti which is being treated, however his doctor did diagnose him with cognitive dysfunction syndrome (fancy name for his is getting old and forgetful) His doctor suggested science diet b/d in some studies has shown some improvement with memory and some of the clinical signs of CDS. While I would do pretty much anything to help my kids science diet isn't up there on my list, I was thinking of just adding proplan puppy formula to his diet. It has DHA and added antioxidants that the science diet b/d also has in their special formula.

Any one heard of or using SD b/d does it help or should i just go with the puppy formula? Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. :)

She only suggested food right now she did say something about drugs and there are several drugs listed the print out she gave me but wanted to see if the food worked first. Bailey is taking meds for his liver might be why she wanted to try food first.

I will check out the link thank you.

Normally a diet solution is preferable to drugs but getting a diet right can take months or even years. Since Bailey is 13 years old time is of the essence and the drug may be his best bet.
