Hi guys heres a video of Charlie on just his 4th hydro session, he’s doing really well first couple were tricky enough and lots of cheating going on with him standing on the ledges and being awkward and having to be wrestled in but by yesterday he was hoping into the tank himself and did 8 mins followed by a rest then a 2 min warm down. He’s very proud of himself afterwards then lapping up the praise and enjoying the attention. We may be crazy expecting results already but he’s already acting like hes more energy and dashing around more on his walks and not getting as tired as quickly as he was. We’re very confident he’ll go from strength to strength and we’ll get his legs much stronger and get his weight down and increase his overall health with this. So far he’s down from 78kg in may to 74kg now, hope to get him well below the 70 mark in the coming months. So far so good!!

Aww, he's such a cutie! Water is therapeutic in so many ways. Congrats to Charlie on his progress already and wishing him more of it  And 8 minutes walking in water, phew, that's no easy task!

its amazing how quickly his stamina is improving, last week after a session he was asleep for the night didn't even stir when i brought molly out for a walk. last night he was out the door before us and did his usual walk just 2 hours after his hydro. maybe someday we'll get him in the water proper

he's going from strength to strength right now, his muscles in his legs are getting much bulkier, his weight is down to 160 lbs from 172 lbs in may and he's in great form, much more active and running about much happier. he had two walks and a hydro session friday yet still had the energy to chase a hare down the road and across a field. its the fastest and farthest i've ever seen him run. fortunately the hare was just a tad quicker than him!!

Hydrotherapy is WONDERFUL! Bojie really benefited from his. In fact, I think he misses it! Something that really helped him, was to give him a bumper or tennis ball to hold in his mouth as he walked, it might help Charlie walk better and distract him. It made Boj feel like he was doing a job I think. As soon as the water filled, he'd put it right in his mouth and when it would drain he'd drop it. GO CHARLIE!

great idea i'll try that. he really is seeing huge benefits already i wasn't sceptical about it but i didn't think we'd see such an improvement so quickly. What i'd give to turn him into a swimmer, it would be so good for him

Do they have an endless pool at your facility? We didn't use that one for Bojie, but if he wasn't already a good swimmer, and if he wouldn't have gotten into their big indoor pool, I would have used it. They always wear life jackets, and get hoisted in and out, with the constant current and the help of the jacket and hoist, it almost teaches them to swim. Definitely try a bumper and/or a tennis ball or whatever his favorite toy is at home to hold in his mouth at your next session, it really made a big difference for us. Looks like he's really getting the hang of it!

Billie used the water treadmill post op too, and it really helped her. She did 8 minutes the day her sutures came out, and was up to 18 minutes by the time therapy ended 8 weeks later, but it really helped to get the muscle back in her leg! The therapist told me that every minute in the water mill is equivalent to 3 minutes on dry ground for muscle building.

we are really pleased and he does enjoy it, he does about 12 mins and its really strengthened his legs and as a result improved his condition as well as aiding with his weight loss
