Can't help but Boast

Tess has been in obedience training for the past 8 weeks. Last night was graduation and I was dreading it because it's hard for her to focus in class, the floors are slick and the number 1 reason is I haven't found the "right" treat. She normally doesn't do anything in class but we practice at home all the time. Well let me tell you she NAILED everything last night! My husband sat there with this look on his face of disbelief and shock. She did EVERYTHING the 1st time asked and got bonus points for doing tricks and (of all things) push-ups. She actually did 16 of them and would have continued but I thought it looked difficult on the slick floors. My secret weapon was cheese! When we had to put a treat down and say leave it I threw a treat down that I knew she didn't like.
I know I shouldn't brag but it was such an accomplishment for her.
All my husband could say is "she just amazes me"! ;)

CONGRATS TO YOU BOTH!!!
they sure can SURPRISE YOU!

i would be cautious with any training facility that does not have the floors favorable for our breed ;)
i know that was a concern of yours, so, if i were you i would suggest pulling the trainers aside and telling them why you would prefer they find a place that has matts or a floor that is more favorable, i know it is not easy to find prolly but, it beats risking injury to her knees or pulling a muscle from feet sliding out from under her.

congrats again!!

That's awesome!! What a feeling of accomplishment, all your training paid off! Cheese is a wonderful motivator, that's what they recommend at Eloise's obedience school as well. I agree about the mats, it's odd that they wouldn't have them for all dogs, not just large breeds. Our school has rubber mats on the floors.

Brody's school has mats, I can't even imagine working with him on a slippery floor.

Cheese never really worked with Brody. On Tuesday, I had cooked some spare ribs in the crockpot and I cut that up for his reward. He was one happy puppy when he did something right.

Sounds like Tess is doing GREAT. Hehe, I was happy Snuffles passed the sit/stay for 1 minute test. He always just wants to lay on down.

Now the night Snuffles graduated beginers training, he got a cup of frozen yogart at the ice cream store on the way home. With accomplishments that Tess and you made, I think you need to split a whole 5 gal container

I totally agree with you and that's why we never pushed the issue of her doing things in class. It almost looked like we weren't participating. We listened and then basically did all the training at home ...We spoke to our trainer about this issue and they are building a new facility for them that should take care of the issue. She also said (the last night) that we could have brought a pad to class. We want to do intermediate training but my husband and I both agree that if the new facility isn't done by then we will go elsewhere.

Thanks for all the nice compliments! We took Tess to Pet Smart for training and I did give them written, as well as one-on-one feedback regarding their floors. Hopefully something will be done about it because other classmates, especially with the larger breeds, were having a tough time too. The set up wasn't very good as they had us in the middle of the store with all kinds of distractions. As newf owners you can relate when I say we were always getting interrupted with people wanting to know what breed Tess was and how beautiful she was. It's nice for the ego but very distracting while training.
I think I messed up when trying to comment on another post...I'm new to posting but have been logging into NN daily for the past 6 months. I feel I know most of you so your comments are most appreciated.

Donna,
I will give her lots of hugs and kisses. Everytime I hear from you and Mira's name is mentioned I get all teared up. I feel I share a bond with her. I'm sure if Winnie was still here she would be proud of her little sister. I love that picture of Molly (at least that's who I think it is)Gosh has she turned into a real beauty!

Congratulations!!! I hope Tess got some sort of 'special' treat out of it too like Leonard did with Snuffles! ;)

Congrats! Doing all that with all the distractions around is especially impressive!
