Unfortunately, my Calza crossed the bridge this past Saturday. It appears that some of her recent medical issues (bleeding) can be traced to a hemangiosarcoma, which took her life.

She was doing okay, but not great the night before. She was acting like the 9 1/2 year old Newf that she was, which was not like her. We got up the next morning and she could barely walk 100 feet without losing her breath and having to regain it.

We were SUPPOSED to go to the CNC Fall Fun Day, so I loaded her and my luggage into the Volvo and took her to the vet on our way out of town. The vet took one look at her white gums and almost freaked out. A couple tests revealed a pool of liquid near her spleen and a dangerously low blood count.

We put her down at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 20. I went ahead to the CNC Fall Fun Day because at this point I needed a Newf fix.

That's really tough, Brad. I'm sorry and totally understand your desire for a Newf fix. Senior Newfs are so wonderful but alas, it seems that sudden health changes do indeed happen. We had two and saw one decline slowly and the other passed with a much more sudden turn. It's just a reminder to take life one day at a time. Take care, Brad.

:grouphug:Wow, life turning on a dime. I guess Arthur(Angela) comes to mind and learning to live in the moment. You were brave to continue your journey, I would have been a basket case.

So very sorry Brad :( I'm sure being around fellow newfs & newf lovers was a help. May all those special moments that were shared comfort your heart.
